Why online forms reject photos and signatures

Most exam and recruitment portals check your photo and signature automatically. If a file does not match the rules, the form stops you, or the application is rejected later when it is checked. The usual reasons are:

  • Wrong file size in KB. Portals set a range, such as 20 to 50 KB for a photo. A file that is too large is refused, and many forms also refuse one that is too small.
  • Wrong pixel size or shape. A full phone photo is often 3000 pixels or more across, while a bank form may expect about 200 x 230 pixels. A square photo uploaded where a tall passport shape is needed can be squashed or rejected.
  • Blur and poor light. A face in shadow, a shaky photo or a heavily compressed file can be treated as "not clearly visible".
  • Wrong background or clothing. Many notices ask for a white or light background and no cap, hat or dark glasses.
  • Wrong signature style. Several notices refuse signatures written in capital letters, and some ask for black ink on white paper only.

How to use the exam photo and signature resizer

  1. Choose a preset or a custom size. Pick your exam from the list, or pick a common size such as "Photo 20-50 KB". If your form gives different numbers, choose custom and type the width, height and minimum and maximum KB from your notice. If the notice gives the size in cm or mm, set "Size given in" to cm or mm and pick the DPI; the tool works out the pixels.
  2. Upload your photo or signature. Add a phone photo or a scan from your gallery or computer. JPG and PNG images work.
  3. Crop, zoom and rotate. The crop box is locked to the shape the exam needs. Drag and zoom so your face sits in the middle with a little space above the head, and rotate if the picture is sideways.
  4. For signatures, use "clean background". This option whitens the paper and removes grey shadows, so your signature appears as dark ink on a plain white background.
  5. Download the JPG. The tool resizes the image to the exact pixel size and adjusts the quality so the file falls inside the KB range. Check the size shown, then download and upload it to your form.

Exam presets in this tool

These figures come from each exam's official notification or information bulletin, checked in October 2026. Always match the latest official notification of your exam: rules can change from one year or one recruitment to the next, and the notice for your exam is the final word.

ExamPhoto size / KBSignature size / KBSource year
IBPS PO and IBPS Clerk (CRP XVI)200 x 230 px (preferred), 20-50 KB140 x 60 px (preferred), 10-20 KB2026
SBI PO and SBI Clerk (Junior Associates)200 x 230 px (preferred), 20-50 KB140 x 60 px (preferred), 10-20 KB2026
RRB NTPC Graduate (CEN 06/2025)Live photo taken in the form, no uploadMinimum 140 x 60 px, 30-49 KB, in a 35 x 20 mm box2025
NEET (UG), NTANo pixel size given, 10-200 KBNo pixel size given, 10-100 KB2026
JEE (Main), NTANo pixel size given, 10-200 KBNo pixel size given, 10-100 KB2025 (for the 2026 exam)
CTET (CBSE)3.5 x 4.5 cm, 10-100 KB3.5 x 1.5 cm, 3-30 KB2026

Where a notice gives centimetres but no pixel count, as CTET does, the tool converts at 200 DPI (for example, 3.5 cm becomes 276 pixels). Where a notice gives only a KB range, as NTA does for NEET and JEE Main, the tool uses a standard passport shape for the photo.

Some exams have no preset yet. SSC now captures your photo live in the application form, and asks for a scanned signature in JPG of 10 to 20 KB. Its 2026 notices describe the signature as about 6.0 x 2.0 cm in one place and about 4.0 x 2.0 cm in another, so read your notice and use a custom size: choose cm, enter 6 × 2 or 4 × 2 as your notice says, and set 10 to 20 KB. HSSC CET notices ask for a coloured photo on a white background with your name and the date the photo was taken written on it. UPSC asks for three signatures, one below the other, on a single image.

How to take a good exam photo at home

  • Use soft daylight. Face a window during the day. Avoid harsh direct sun and overhead bulbs that cast shadows under the eyes.
  • Use a plain background. Stand in front of a plain white or light-coloured wall, with no pattern, doors or furniture behind you.
  • Hold the phone at eye level. Ask someone to take the photo from about an arm's length or more, with the camera at the height of your eyes, not from below.
  • Look straight at the camera. Keep a relaxed, natural face with both ears visible, no cap or dark glasses, and hair away from your eyes.
  • Use the main camera, not a filter. Turn off beauty modes and filters. Many notices say the photo must be recent, so do not reuse an old one.

How to sign for an online form

  • Sign with a black ink pen on plain white paper, unless your notice says otherwise.
  • Use your normal running signature. Do not write in capital letters, because several notices reject that.
  • Sign in the middle of the paper with space around it, and take the photo in good light so there are no shadows across the page.
  • Crop close to the signature, then switch on "clean background" so the paper turns pure white.
  • Keep your signature the same at every stage. Banks and boards may compare it with the one you sign at the exam.

Your photos stay on your device

The resizer works inside your browser. Your photo and signature are not uploaded to our server or stored anywhere, so you can safely use it for personal documents. When you close the page, the images are gone, so download your JPG files before you leave.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photo and signature uploaded anywhere?

No. The resizer runs entirely inside your browser on your own phone or computer. Your photo and signature are not sent to our server or to anyone else, and nothing is stored after you close the page. Download your finished JPG files before you leave, because they are not saved for you.

Which exams have ready presets?

The tool has presets for 24 exams, including IBPS PO, Clerk and RRB, SBI PO and Clerk, RBI Assistant and Grade B, LIC AAO, NABARD Grade A, RRB NTPC, ALP and JE, NEET UG and PG, JEE Main, CUET UG, CTET, GATE, CAT, India Post GDS, SSC JE, UP Police Constable and UPSSSC PET. Each uses the figures from that exam's official notice, with the year shown. For any other form, choose a custom size.

How do I resize a signature to 10–20 KB?

Choose Signature, then pick your exam or "Signature 10-20 KB (common)", which is 140 × 60 pixels. Upload a photo of your signature on white paper, keep "clean background" on and drag it to fit the frame. The tool saves a JPG inside 10–20 KB, adding harmless padding if a plain signature comes out too small.

How do I resize a photo to 20–50 KB?

Choose Photo, then pick your exam or "Photo 20-50 KB (common)". Upload a clear front-facing photo, drag and zoom so your face fills the frame, and download. The tool finds the highest quality that stays under 50 KB and makes sure the file is at least 20 KB.

What if my exam notice gives different sizes from the preset?

Follow your notice. Rules can change between years and between recruitments, and the latest official notification of your exam is the final word. Choose the custom option and type the width and height in pixels and the minimum and maximum KB exactly as your notice gives them. The tool then crops, resizes and compresses to those numbers.

My notice gives the size in cm. How do I convert it to pixels?

Choose Custom size, set "Size given in" to cm or mm, type the width and height and pick the DPI. The tool converts it for you: pixels = cm ÷ 2.54 × DPI. At 200 DPI, 3.5 × 4.5 cm becomes 276 × 354 pixels and 6 × 2 cm becomes 472 × 157. Use the DPI in your notice; if it gives none, 200 DPI is a common choice.

Why does a form say my file is too small in KB?

Many forms set a minimum size as well as a maximum, such as 20 to 50 KB, to make sure the image is not too blurry. A very small crop or a plain signature on white paper can compress below that minimum. Choose the correct preset or custom KB range, and the tool raises the quality so the file falls inside the range.

What does the clean background option do for signatures?

Photos of a signature on paper often have grey shadows, uneven light or a yellow tint. The clean background option whitens the paper and keeps the ink dark, so your signature looks like a clean scan on plain white. Sign with a black pen on white paper first, and avoid capital letters, because several notices reject them.

Can I take my exam photo with a phone at home?

Yes, if you follow the notice. Stand facing a window in daylight, in front of a plain white or light wall. Ask someone to hold the phone at your eye level and look straight at the camera, without a cap, dark glasses or filters. Then crop it in this tool. Some exams, such as SSC and RRB, also capture a live photo in the form.

Why is SSC CGL or CHSL not in the list?

SSC captures the photo live in the form, and its 2026 CGL, CHSL and CAPF SI notices describe the signature as about 6.0 × 2.0 cm in one place and about 4.0 × 2.0 cm in another, both 10–20 KB JPEG. Because the notices conflict, there is no preset. Read your notice, choose Signature, Custom size, enter the size in cm and 10–20 KB. SSC JE has a preset.
