    Unlocked PDF

Page 1 of your unlocked PDF appears here, so you can check it before you save.

The unlocked file keeps every page, the text and the quality. Nothing is uploaded. Not affiliated with UIDAI, the Income Tax Department or any bank.

Open your own PDFs without typing the password every time

Many documents in India arrive as password-protected PDFs: the e-Aadhaar you download from UIDAI, an e-PAN, monthly bank and credit card statements, salary slips from payroll software, insurance policies and loan statements. The password protects them while they travel by email, which is good. But it gets in the way when you need to upload the statement to a loan or visa portal that rejects locked files, print it at a shop, merge it with other papers, or simply open it on another device.

This tool saves a copy of your PDF that opens without the password. You type the password once, and the file is decrypted inside your browser. It is never uploaded, and the password is not saved.

It is only for documents that are yours, or that you are allowed to open. It needs the correct password and does not crack, guess or bypass passwords you do not know.

How to remove a password from a PDF

    1. Choose the PDF. Tap the box or drop the file. You can add up to 20 files, such as a year of statements from one account. The first time, the unlocker itself downloads (up to 1.3 MB, only once).
    2. Type the password. Passwords are case-sensitive. If you are not sure of the format, tap e-Aadhaar, e-PAN or Bank statement for the hints below.
    3. Press Unlock. Each file is checked with your password. A wrong password is flagged, so you can correct it and try again.
    4. Check page 1 in the preview.
    5. Download the unlocked PDF, named yourfile-unlocked.pdf, or all of them in one ZIP.

    Password formats we could confirm

Each issuer chooses its own format. We list only the ones stated on the issuer's own website, checked in October 2026. Formats can change, so if one does not work, read the email or page that came with your document.

    DocumentPassword formatExample
e-Aadhaar (UIDAI)First 4 letters of the name as on Aadhaar, in capitals, plus year of birth (YYYY)SURESH KUMAR, 1990 → SURE1990
    e-PAN from Protean (NSDL)Date of birth as DDMMYYYY15 March 1990 → 15031990
HDFC Bank account statementYour Customer ID (numeric NetBanking user ID)As shown in your NetBanking
SBI statement by SMS or missed callThe 4-digit code you chose in your requestThe code you sent

UIDAI's own examples show how short names and initials work: SAI KUMAR becomes SAIK1990 (the space is skipped), P. KUMAR becomes P.KU1990 (the full stop counts) and RIA becomes RIA1990. The e-Aadhaar helper on this page builds the password from your name and year of birth in the same way. See the UIDAI FAQ and Protean's e-PAN page.

For other banks, credit cards, salary slips, Form 16 and insurance documents, we have not listed formats we could not confirm from the issuer. The email that brought the document, or the issuer's help desk, is the right place to check.

    What happens to your file

The tool uses qpdf, a widely used open-source PDF program, running inside your browser. With your password it decrypts the PDF and writes the same content without encryption. Pages, text, fonts, images and links are kept exactly as they were, so text stays searchable and the size stays about the same. Nothing is converted to images.

There is no limit on how many files you unlock or how often you come back, and no account to create. Once the page and the unlocker have loaded, it even works without an internet connection.

If your browser cannot run the unlocker, you can still make an image copy: each page is saved as a picture in a new PDF. The tool tells you when it does this, because the text in an image copy cannot be selected or searched.

Things to know before you unlock

    • Keep the original. An e-Aadhaar is digitally signed by UIDAI, and the signature is tied to the original file. The unlocked copy is fine for reading, printing and most uploads, but keep the original for anything that checks the signature.
    • Store the unlocked copy carefully. Anyone who gets it can open it. Do not leave it in shared folders or on a shop computer.
    • Owner restrictions are different. Some PDFs open freely but block printing or copying. Those restrictions can only be removed with the owner password, and the tool asks for it.
    • Need a smaller file as well? After unlocking, use the PDF compressor to bring it under a portal's size limit, or the Aadhaar card print tool to print your e-Aadhaar at card size.

When the password does not work

Check capital letters first: e-Aadhaar needs capitals, while some banks use small letters. Make sure the name is exactly as printed on the document, including initials and full stops, and that you used the right year or date. Tap Show to see what you typed. If you have several cards or accounts, the statement may belong to a different customer ID.

If it still fails, download a fresh copy from the issuer's website or app, where you sign in with your own account. This tool cannot recover a lost password, by design.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the password of an e-Aadhaar PDF?

According to UIDAI, it is the first 4 letters of your name as printed on Aadhaar, in capital letters, followed by your year of birth. For example, SURESH KUMAR born in 1990 gives SURE1990, and P. KUMAR gives P.KU1990 because the full stop counts.

Can this tool open a PDF if I have forgotten the password?

No. It removes a password that you type; it does not guess, crack or bypass passwords. If you have forgotten it, check the hints for your type of document on this page, or download a fresh copy from the bank, UIDAI or whoever issued it.

Does removing the password change my PDF?

The pages, text, images and quality stay exactly the same. The tool decrypts the file with your password and saves it without encryption, so the copy opens straight away in any PDF reader.

Is it safe to unlock my bank statement or Aadhaar here?

Yes. The file is unlocked inside your browser on your own phone or computer and is never uploaded. The password is not saved anywhere. Keep the unlocked copy somewhere private, because anyone who gets it can open it.

Will the digital signature on my e-Aadhaar still be valid?

Keep the original file for that. A digital signature is tied to the exact bytes of the original PDF, and saving a new copy without the password changes those bytes. The unlocked copy is for reading, printing or attaching to forms that do not check the signature.

What is the password for an e-PAN PDF?

For e-PAN downloaded from the Protean (formerly NSDL e-Gov) site, Protean says the password is your date of birth as DDMMYYYY, with no spaces or slashes. For example, 15 March 1990 becomes 15031990.

Can I unlock several bank statements at once?

Yes. Add up to 20 PDFs. Statements from the same account usually share one password, so type it once and press Unlock. Download them one by one or together as a ZIP.

My PDF opens without a password but will not let me print. Can this help?

That PDF has owner restrictions. Only its owner (permissions) password can remove them, so if it is your own file and you know that password, type it and press Unlock. Without it, the tool will not remove the restrictions.
