Name slips for every notebook, printed in one go
At the start of every school year, and again when new notebooks come in, parents sit with a pack of name slips and write the same details a dozen times: name, class, section, roll number, subject and school. Shop-bought slips are cute but blank, and children's handwriting on them fades or smudges. Many schools also ask for neatly labelled notebooks for each subject.
This name slip maker prints them for you. Type the details once, tick the subjects, and get an A4 sheet of name slips with each subject already printed. Pick one of six designs and a colour, print on plain paper and cut, or print straight onto A4 sticker label sheets. Teachers can make slips for a whole class from a list of names.
How to make name slips
- Student details. Type the name, class, section, roll number and school. Anything you leave empty prints as a line to fill by hand.
- Subjects. Tick the subjects your child has, add others such as Rough work, Homework or Diary, and choose how many slips you need for each.
- Language. Choose English or Hindi labels. In Hindi, the ticked subjects print in Hindi too (गणित, विज्ञान, हिंदी and so on).
- Design and colour. Choose Classic, Clouds, Polka dots, Rainbow, Notebook or Minimal, and a colour.
- Paper. Choose plain A4 with cut lines, or the sticker sheet layout that matches your pack.
- Print. Download the PDF or print directly. Keep "Fill the rest of the sheet" on to use every slip on the page.
Paper and label sizes
| Paper option | Slips per A4 | Slip size | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plain paper | 10 | 95 × 52 mm | Notebook covers, with photo |
| Plain paper, small | 16 | 95 × 33 mm | Thin notebooks, files |
| Sticker sheet | 8 | 99.1 × 67.7 mm | Big labels with photo |
| Sticker sheet | 12 | 63.5 × 72 mm | Square-ish labels |
| Sticker sheet | 14 or 16 | 99.1 × 38.1 or 33.9 mm | Long strips for notebook fronts |
| Sticker sheet | 21 or 24 | 63.5 × 38.1 or 33.9 mm | Small books, pencil boxes |
Sticker sheets from different brands use the same common A4 layouts, but always match the number of labels and the size printed on your pack. Print at 100% or "Actual size". Test one page on plain paper first: hold it against the sticker sheet up to a light to check that the slips line up with the labels.
The six designs
- Classic: a double rounded border, neat and suitable for any age.
- Clouds: a soft tinted slip with a scalloped band along the top, popular for primary classes.
- Polka dots: rows of small dots along the top and bottom edges.
- Rainbow: a rainbow stripe down the left side.
- Notebook: a cream page with a red margin line and punch holes.
- Minimal: a thin black outline, good for older students and for saving ink.
All designs are drawn as shapes, not cartoon characters, so the PDF stays sharp at any size and nothing is copied from a brand.
For teachers: a whole class at once
Open "Slips for a whole class" and paste the roll numbers and names, for example 1, Aarav Gupta, one per line or straight from Excel. Each student gets the subjects you ticked. With 30 students and 2 subjects on 16-slip sheets, that is 60 slips on four sheets. It's handy for labelling class notebooks, test copies, art files or library books.
Tips for slips that last
- Print on 100 GSM paper or sticker paper; ordinary 70 GSM copier paper wrinkles under tape.
- Cover paper slips with clear tape or the notebook's plastic cover so the ink doesn't smudge.
- Use a different colour for each child in the family, so notebooks never get mixed up.
- Print two slips for subjects with a class work and a home work notebook.
- Leave the subject blank on a few spare slips for new notebooks later in the year.
A back-to-school checklist
Most families label books twice a year: in April when the new session starts, and again in June or July when schools reopen after the summer break and the full set of notebooks arrives. Before you print, it helps to check a few things:
- Get the subject list from the school. Schools often name notebooks their own way (for example "EVS" in primary classes and "Science" and "Social Science" later), and some ask for a separate notebook for each part of a subject, such as Hindi grammar.
- Check how the school writes the class. Some use "V" and some "5"; some write the section with the class ("5 A") and others separately. Copy whatever the school uses.
- Count the notebooks. Add up class work, home work, rough work and practice notebooks, then set slips per subject to match.
- Keep the PDF. Save it on your phone; when a notebook gets full mid-year, print one more sheet in a minute.
Private and free
The name slips are made inside your browser. Your child's name, school and photo are not uploaded. The form (without the photo) is saved on this device for next time. There's no sign-up and no watermark.
Frequently asked questions
What is written on a notebook name slip?
Usually the student's name, class and section, roll number, subject and school name. This tool prints all of these, and any field you leave empty becomes a line to write on by hand.
Can I make one name slip for each subject?
Yes. Tick the subjects (English, Hindi, Maths, Science, Social Science, EVS and more) or type your own, and you get a slip for each one, with the subject printed. Choose 2 or more slips per subject for extra notebooks.
What size is a name slip?
On plain paper you can print 10 slips of 95 × 52 mm or 16 smaller slips of 95 × 33 mm on an A4 sheet. For sticker paper, pick the layout that matches your pack, such as 12 labels of 63.5 × 72 mm or 24 labels of 63.5 × 33.9 mm.
How do I print name slips on sticker paper?
Choose the A4 sticker sheet layout with the same number and size of labels as your pack, download the PDF and print at 100% or 'Actual size', not 'Fit to page'. Try one sheet on plain paper first and hold it against a sticker sheet to check the alignment.
Can I make name slips in Hindi?
Yes. Set Labels to Hindi and the slip shows नाम, विषय, कक्षा, वर्ग, अनु. क्र. and विद्यालय, and the ticked subjects print in Hindi. You can also type the name in Hindi.
Can a teacher make name slips for the whole class?
Yes. Open 'Slips for a whole class' and paste roll numbers and names, one student per line. Every student gets the same set of subject slips, with the class, section and school you entered.
Can I add a photo to the name slip?
Yes, for slips that are tall enough (the 52 mm plain slips and the larger sticker labels). The photo is cropped to a passport-like shape and stays in your browser.
