Why practise tables instead of only reading them
Reading a table aloud helps a child remember the order: 7, 14, 21, 28. But in class the questions arrive out of order. "What is 7 × 8?" has to come back in a second or two, without counting up from 7 × 1. That kind of recall grows from short, frequent practice in which the child has to produce the answer, sees at once whether it is right, and fixes the fact they got wrong. This tool is built around that loop: a chart for learning, typed questions with instant feedback, and the mistakes at the end of every round, ready to practise again.
It works on a phone, tablet or computer with no login, and a child can use it alone once a parent has chosen the tables.
How to use it
- Choose tables. Tap one number, such as 7, or tap several to mix them. The quick buttons pick 2 to 10, 11 to 20, or all of 2 to 20.
- Learn. The chart shows the first chosen table. Use the arrows to move between the chosen tables. Turn on Cover answers to hide the answers; the child says each answer and taps the ? to check it. Read aloud uses the voices already on your device.
- Practice. Choose 10, 20, 30 or 50 questions, in order (7 × 1, 7 × 2 …) or mixed up. Type the answer with the keyboard or the on-screen number pad. A right answer moves on by itself; a wrong one shows the correct fact for a moment.
- Timed challenge. Answer as many as possible in 1, 2 or 3 minutes. It works best once a table is mostly known.
- Review. At the end you see right and wrong answers, accuracy, right answers a minute and the time per question, followed by every mistake. Practise these again asks each missed fact twice more.
Learning with Hindi pahade
Many children in India first learn tables as pahade, chanted at home or at school: दो एकम दो, दो दूनी चार, दो तिया छह. The rhythm helps memory, which is why the chart can show those words next to the numbers. Switch on Show Hindi pahade words and every line gets its spoken form, and practice questions show a Hindi prompt such as सात अट्ठे कितने? under the sum.
The words for multiplying by one to ten are एकम, दूनी, तिया, चौके, पंजे, छक्के, सत्ते, अट्ठे, नवा and दहाई. Beyond ten there is no settled traditional word, so the chart uses the plain form "सात गुणा ग्यारह". Spoken pahade also vary from family to family and region to region; you may hear नवें or नम्मा for nine. If your child's teacher uses a different word, keep the teacher's version. The numbers are what matter.
Read aloud picks a Hindi voice when the device has one. Many Android phones with Google's speech service do, and so do some Windows computers. If none is found, the tool reads the table in English and tells you so.
A simple plan for learning 2 to 20
This order works for most children because each step builds on the one before:
- Start with 2, 5 and 10. The answers follow easy patterns: even numbers, numbers ending in 0 or 5, and a zero added to the number.
- Then 3, 4 and 9. Four is double two, doubled again. In the table of 9 up to 9 × 10 the digits of each answer add up to 9 (18, 27, 36).
- Then 6, 7 and 8. These have the fewest patterns and need the most practice. A child who knows 2 to 5 already knows a lot of them: 7 × 3 is the same as 3 × 7.
- 11 to 20 last. These lean on the earlier tables. 13 × 6 is 10 × 6 plus 3 × 6, that is 60 + 18 = 78.
Add one new table only when the last one is mostly right. Then mix it with older tables so they stay fresh.
Short and regular beats long
Ten minutes on most days does more than an hour once a week. The progress box below the tool helps with this. It keeps a daily goal of 10, 15 or 30 minutes, a streak of days with at least one round, a personal best in right answers a minute and a level from Beginner to Table master. A level needs speed and accuracy together, so racing through with wrong answers does not count.
The Which tables need practice? panel colours each table you have tried. Green means at least 90% right at 5 seconds a question or less; yellow means getting there; red needs more work. Under the colours, the single facts that went wrong or took a long time are listed, often a handful such as 7 × 8, 6 × 7 and 8 × 9. Practise my weak spots builds a round from exactly those. All of this stays in the browser on your device. If two children share one phone, use a different browser for each child or reset the progress between them.
Printing a tables test
Paper still has its place, especially for homework or a quick class test. Print test sheet makes 40 mixed questions from the chosen tables, with lines for name, date and score, and the answer key on a second page. Each press makes a new set. If missing numbers is on, some questions look like 7 × ___ = 56. Print tables chart prints the full chart of each chosen table, three to a row, with the Hindi words when they are switched on. Both can also be saved as a PDF from the print window.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Praise the fixed mistake, not only the score. The review list makes it easy to say "you got 7 × 8 wrong yesterday and right today".
- Use missing-number questions. 7 × ? = 56 links multiplication to division, which helps in Class 3 and 4 division sums.
- Keep timed rounds short. One minute is enough for younger children. If a child freezes under time, go back to untimed practice for a few days.
- Follow the school book. If your school follows NCERT, the Maths textbooks on the NCERT website show how multiplication is introduced in your child's class, so you can match what the teacher is doing.

Frequently asked questions
Which tables should a child learn first?
Most children find 2, 5 and 10 easiest because the answers follow a clear pattern, so start there. Then move to 3, 4 and 9, and keep 6, 7 and 8 for later. Practise one new table at a time and mix it with tables already learnt once it feels comfortable.
How do the Hindi pahade words work?
Switch on 'Show Hindi pahade words' and each line of the chart shows the spoken form, for example सात अट्ठे छप्पन for 7 × 8 = 56. Practice questions also show the Hindi prompt. The words for ×1 to ×10 follow one common form; families in different regions say some of them a little differently, such as नवा, नवें or नम्मा for nine.
Does it need an internet connection or an account?
No account is needed. Once the page has loaded, the questions are made in your browser, and the progress, weak spots and settings are saved only in that browser on that device. Nothing is sent to a server.
How is speed measured?
The result shows right answers a minute, all questions answered a minute, accuracy and the average time per question. Your level and personal best use right answers a minute together with accuracy, so guessing fast does not move you up.
What does 'Practise my weak spots' do?
Every answer is saved with its time. Tables answered below 90% accuracy, or slower than 5 seconds on average, are marked as weak, and single facts you got wrong or answered slowly are listed. The button starts a round made from exactly those facts.
Can I print a tables test for the class?
Yes. Choose the tables and press Print test sheet. You get 40 mixed questions with lines for name, date and score, and the answer key on the second page. Print tables chart prints the full chart of the chosen tables instead, with Hindi words if they are switched on.
