About the UGC NET uploads
UGC-NET December 2026 decides eligibility for three things in Indian universities and colleges: the award of Junior Research Fellowship with appointment as Assistant Professor, appointment as Assistant Professor with admission to Ph.D., and admission to Ph.D. only. General, unreserved and Gen-EWS candidates need at least 55% in a Master's degree or equivalent, and OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD/PwBD and third gender candidates at least 50%; final-year students can apply provisionally. You register through Meri Pehchan, the government's single sign-on. The form then asks for two pictures of you. One is a live photograph taken on your webcam, or on a phone by scanning a QR code. The other is a scanned recent photograph, which may be in colour or black and white, with 80% of the face and both ears showing against a white background. The signature is the third image.

UGC NET photo and signature size (2026 notice)
| Upload | Size | File size | Format | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photograph | 350 × 450 px* | 10–200 KB | JPG | Official (UGC-NET December 2026 bulletin): recent photograph, in colour or black and white, with 80% of the face (without mask) visible including ears, against a white background; file size 10-200 KB. The bulletin gives no pixel size and does not name a file format; 350 x 450 px is the standard 3.5 x 4.5 passport shape, saved as JPG, the format NTA names for the same upload in its Joint CSIR-UGC NET December 2026 bulletin. A live photo is also captured in the form. |
| Signature | 500 × 200 px* | 10–50 KB | JPG | Official (UGC-NET December 2026 bulletin): candidate's signature, file size 10-50 KB. The bulletin gives no pixel size or file format; 500 x 200 px is a default wide enough to reach the 10 KB minimum, saved as JPG. |
*The notice fixes the KB range but not an exact pixel size, so the tool uses a suggested default that fits the range.

How to resize your UGC NET photo and signature
- The UGC NET size is already selected above. Switch between Photo, Signature at the top.
- Upload a clear photo from your phone, or a scan or photo of your signature on white paper.
- Drag and zoom so your face (or signature) fills the frame. Use Rotate if it is sideways.
- For the signature, keep Clean background on so the paper turns pure white and the ink stays dark.
- Press Download JPG. The result shows the exact pixel size and KB, within the UGC NET limits.
Tips so your UGC NET upload is not rejected
- Uploading a photograph or signature that is not your own, or a false, altered or morphed one, is treated as Unfair Means.
- Taking the live photo against a dark or cluttered wall: NTA asks for a light-coloured background, proper lighting and 80% face visibility, including ears and without a mask.
- Coming to the exam without a passport size photograph identical to the uploaded one: it is pasted on the attendance sheet, and without the listed documents you are not allowed to sit for the exam.
- Use a recent colour photo with a plain light background and even light on your face, with no cap or dark glasses.
- Sign in black ink inside the space, and do not sign in capital letters unless the notice allows it.
- Open the downloaded file once to check it looks sharp before you upload it to the portal.

UGC NET photo and signature FAQs
What is the photo size for UGC NET?
350 × 450 px, 10–200 KB, JPG. The notice fixes only the KB range, so the pixel size is our suggested default. The resizer above is already set to this size.
What is the signature size for UGC NET?
500 × 200 px, 10–50 KB, JPG. The notice fixes only the KB range, so the pixel size is our suggested default. Sign with a black pen on plain white paper and keep "Clean background" on.
I missed 28 October. Can I still apply for UGC NET December 2026?
Yes, with a late fee. Late submission of the online form runs from 29 to 31 October 2026, with a late fee of Rs. 500, and the fee transaction must succeed by 31 October 2026 (up to 11:50 PM). The normal fee is Rs. 1150 for General/Unreserved, Rs. 600 for Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL, and Rs. 325 for SC, ST, PwD/PwBD and third gender.
Can I correct my UGC NET form after submitting it?
Corrections in the particulars of the application form can be made online only from 02 to 04 November 2026 (up to 11:50 PM). After that, NTA says requests to change particulars or uploaded scanned images will not be considered, and it does not accept corrections sent by post, fax, WhatsApp, email or by hand.
Is there an age limit for UGC NET?
For JRF, you must be not more than 30 years old on 01.12.2026, with relaxation of up to 5 years for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD/PwBD, third gender and women applicants, and further relaxation for research experience, an LL.M. degree or armed forces service (total relaxation capped at 5 years). There is no upper age limit for Assistant Professor.
Can I take the UGC NET photo with my phone?
Yes. Stand facing a plain light wall in daylight, hold the phone at eye level and take a sharp, front-facing photo. Upload it here, drag and zoom so your face fills the frame, and the tool saves it at the exact pixel size and KB range.
How do I check the size of my file before uploading?
The result box under the preview shows the exact pixel size and file size in KB. On a phone you can also open the file details in the Files or Gallery app. On a computer, right-click the file and open Properties (Windows) or Get Info (Mac).
What if my file is smaller than the minimum KB?
Small images can come out below the minimum even at full quality. This tool then adds a harmless comment block inside the JPG so the file reaches the minimum size, while the picture stays exactly the same.
