Timed practice

Olympiad-style practice papers, made fresh every time
School olympiads in maths, science and reasoning are popular from Class 1 onwards, and most of them follow a familiar shape: a paper of multiple-choice questions, a section that tests logical reasoning, and an OMR sheet on which children darken one bubble per answer. Children who have practised that shape before the real day are calmer and quicker. The trouble is finding practice material. Most sample papers online are a handful of PDFs that every child has already seen, or full mock tests that ask for a sign-up or a payment.
This tool writes a new practice paper whenever you ask. Choose a class from 1 to 8, the sections (Maths, Reasoning or both), 10 to 50 questions and a difficulty level. The generator builds every question from scratch with its own numbers, words and figures, checks that exactly one option is right, and lays the paper out on A4 pages, followed by an OMR answer sheet and an answer key with the working. Teachers can hand out a different paper every week; parents can print one for the weekend or let the child try it on screen with a timer.
The questions are original and only olympiad-style. They are not taken from any organiser's papers, and the format is a general one. If your child is sitting a particular olympiad, read that organiser's own syllabus and sample paper for its exact pattern, marking and timing.
How to make a practice paper
- Class and sections. Tap the class. Choose Maths + Reasoning for a mixed paper (reasoning comes first, then maths), or one section on its own.
- Paper. Choose the number of questions and Easy, Medium or Hard. Leave Time allowed on Auto, or set your own limit; it is printed on the paper and used by the on-screen timer.
- Header. Add your school, coaching or tuition name and a test name if you like. Keep the OMR sheet, answer key and working switched on, or turn off what you don't need.
- Check the preview. Use the arrows or the Questions, OMR sheet and Answer key buttons to look at each page. Press New questions for a different paper.
- Print or practise. Download the PDF, print straight from the page, or press Start timed practice to answer the same paper on screen and see the score.
What is in each section
The mix changes with the class, so a Class 2 paper doesn't ask about clock angles and a Class 8 paper doesn't ask which number comes after 19.
| Section | Question types | How they grow with the class |
|---|---|---|
| Logical Reasoning | Number and letter series, odd one out, analogies, coding and decoding, direction sense, ranking in a row, calendar, clocks, mirror and water images, counting figures | Classes 1–2 turn left or right, read a clock face and count small triangles; higher classes walk a route and find the distance, decode shifted letters, find the day of a date and the angle between clock hands |
| Mathematical Reasoning | Number patterns, missing numbers, number riddles, quick calculation, word problems, logic puzzles, shapes and measures, counting numbers | From "? + 7 = 12" and legs of hens and cows up to heads-and-legs puzzles, ages, handshakes, remainders, unit digits of powers and price changes in per cent |
Figure questions are drawn as clean line diagrams. A mirror-image question shows a shape on a dotted grid with the mirror as a dashed line, and the four options are the shape flipped in different ways, so only one is the true mirror image. Counting questions draw a triangle cut by lines or a grid of squares, and the answer counts shapes of every size.
The OMR sheet and the answer key
The OMR page is in the same style as our OMR sheet generator: lines for the name, class, school and signature, five roll-number columns, short instructions with a "how to mark" guide, and one row of A, B, C and D bubbles for each question, shaded in blocks of five so a child doesn't slip a row. When a paper has two sections, the instructions say which question numbers belong to which section.
The answer key starts with a compact grid of question numbers and letters, handy for checking a pile of OMR sheets. Below it, every question has its answer and one line of working, for example "Add the letter positions: 4 + 15 + 7 = 26" or "13 days later is 1 week and 6 days". Children learn far more from that line than from a bare letter.
Timed practice on screen
Press Start timed practice and the paper opens below the tool with a countdown. Each question has four large options that are easy to tap on a phone, and figure questions show the same drawings as the printed paper. When the child presses Submit, or the time runs out, the page shows the score, marks each answer right or wrong, and opens the working under every question. It runs entirely in the browser, and no answers or names leave your device.
Tips for using practice papers well
- Start small. A 10-question Easy paper builds confidence. Move to Medium and to longer papers once the child finishes comfortably in time.
- Practise the OMR sheet too. Ask the child to mark answers on the OMR page, not on the question paper. Darkening a full bubble neatly, and keeping the row number right, takes practice.
- Go through the working together. For every wrong answer, read the one-line working and ask the child to explain it back. Most mistakes in reasoning come from rushing, not from not knowing.
- Watch the clock, not just the score. If time runs out before the last questions, practise leaving a hard question and coming back to it.
- Use the topic pages. If coding or mirror images keep going wrong, make a Reasoning-only paper a few times in a row; the generator spreads questions across all types, so weak areas come up often.
Every paper is generated in your browser. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many papers you make. For school worksheets matched to NCERT chapters, use the worksheet generator.

Frequently asked questions
Are these real olympiad question papers?
No. Every question is written by this generator in the style of school olympiad papers: four options, one right answer, reasoning and maths sections. Nothing is copied from any organiser's past paper, and MuftTools is not connected with any olympiad organiser. Use the papers for practice and use the official sample papers of your exam to learn its exact pattern.
Which topics are covered in the reasoning section?
Number and letter series, odd one out, analogies, coding and decoding, direction sense, mirror and water images, counting triangles and squares in a figure, calendar and clock puzzles, and ranking in a row. Lower classes get simpler versions, for example turning left or right instead of walking a route.
Does every paper come with an answer key and OMR sheet?
Yes. After the questions the PDF has an OMR answer sheet with roll-number bubbles and one row of A to D bubbles per question, then an answer key. The key has a quick grid of answers for checking an OMR sheet, plus one line of working for every question. You can switch the OMR sheet, the key or the working off.
Can my child take the test online with a timer?
Yes. Press Start timed practice under the preview. The same paper opens on screen with a countdown; your child picks an option for each question and presses Submit. The score, the right answers and the working appear at once. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
How many questions and how much time should a practice paper have?
You can choose 10 to 50 questions. For a quick daily drill, 10 or 15 questions work well; for a full mock, pick 35 to 50. Auto time allows about one and a half minutes a question in Classes 1–2 and a little over a minute in higher classes. Check your own exam's rules for the real duration.
Can a teacher give different papers to different students?
Yes. Each click on New questions writes a completely new paper with its own key, so you can print one paper for each row or each day. The paper stays the same until you press New questions or change a setting, so a printout and its key always match.
Is it free? Do I need to sign up?
It is free with no sign-up, no download limit and no watermark. The papers are made in your browser, and nothing you type, including the school name, is uploaded.
