Certificates your interns can be proud of

At the end of an internship, students need a certificate for their college records, their resume and their next application. For the host organisation, writing one for each intern takes time, and design tools often ask for a sign-up or add a watermark. This tool is for the companies, startups, NGOs, hospitals, law firms and institutes that host interns: fill in the details once and download a finished certificate or completion letter in a minute.

There are two formats. The certificate is a centred page with a border in one of three styles (classic double line, modern bars or a simple line) and five colours, your organisation's name or letterhead at the top, a large title and the intern's name in large letters. The completion letter carries the same facts as a plain letter on your letterhead, which some colleges and employers prefer. Both download as PDF or Word, print directly, or copy as text.

How to use the internship certificate generator

  1. Choose the format. Certificate (with border) or completion letter.
  2. Issued by. Your organisation's name, a certificate number, the date of issue and the place.
  3. Intern. Name, how to address them, course and year, and college or university.
  4. Internship. Choose internship, summer internship, industrial training or project training; the title changes to match. Add the role, team, start and end dates (the duration fills in), project, mentor, skills and a performance line.
  5. Signed by. The name and designation of the person signing.
  6. QR code and look. Optionally paste a verification link; pick the border style and colour.
  7. Letterhead, signature and seal. In step 3, turn on the letterhead to add your logo and address, and add signature and stamp images. Then download or print.

How the duration is worked out

The tool counts from the start date to the end date with both days included. Under a month, it shows whole weeks when the days divide evenly, otherwise days: 1 to 28 June is 4 weeks, 1 to 20 June is 20 days. From a month upwards, it shows months and days: 1 June to 31 July is 2 months, and 15 May to 30 June is 1 month and 16 days. If your college expects a different wording, such as "8 weeks", type over it.

A verification QR that means something

Some organisations now add a QR code to their certificates so that colleges and employers can check them. The tool can print a QR, but only for a link you provide, such as a page on your website that lists certificate numbers or confirms this certificate. A QR that just opens your home page proves nothing, so if you have no verification page, leave the field empty. The QR is placed in the bottom-left corner with "Scan to verify" under it, and the QR code library loads only when you type a link.

Good practice for issuers

  • Issue certificates only to interns who completed the internship with you, with the actual dates from your records.
  • Use the intern's name exactly as in their college ID, and the college's full name.
  • Number your certificates and keep a register, even a spreadsheet. It makes verification calls easy.
  • Keep the performance line honest. "Sincere and eager to learn" is useful for a student; "excellent" should mean excellent.
  • Let the mentor read the certificate before it is signed.

Before and after the internship

To offer an internship in the first place, use the internship offer letter, which shares the same duration logic. For employees rather than interns, the experience letter generator makes experience and relieving letters. Everything runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded, and there is no sign-up or watermark.

Frequently asked questions

Who issues an internship certificate?

The organisation where the internship was done: a company, startup, NGO, hospital, law firm or institute. It is signed by an authorised person such as a director, HR head or the mentor's manager. Students should ask their host organisation for it; this tool is for the issuer.

What details does an internship certificate include?

The intern's name, course and college, the type of internship, role and team, start and end dates with the duration, the project and mentor, skills gained, a performance line, the date and place of issue, a certificate number and the signatory's name and designation.

What is the difference between the certificate and the completion letter?

The certificate is a centred, bordered page meant to be framed or filed, with the name in large letters. The completion letter is a plain letter on letterhead with the same facts, which some colleges and employers prefer.

How is the duration calculated?

From the start date to the end date, both days counted. Spans under a month show in weeks or days (1 to 28 June is 4 weeks); longer ones in months and days (1 June to 31 July is 2 months). You can type over it.

How does the verification QR work?

You paste a link to a page on your own website that confirms the certificate, and the QR opens that page. A QR only proves something if the page belongs to you and lists the certificate; if you have no such page, leave it out.

Can I add our logo, signature and seal?

Yes. Turn on the letterhead in step 3 to add your logo and address; on the certificate they are centred at the top. Add signature and stamp images, or sign and stamp the printout by hand.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The certificate is made in your browser and nothing is sent to our server. There is no sign-up and no watermark.
