A To-Let poster people can actually read
The handwritten "TO-LET" on a sheet of paper still works, but it rarely says enough. People walking past want to know three things before they call: what is for rent, how much it costs and who to call. A poster that answers those clearly brings fewer pointless calls and more serious tenants. This tool makes that poster in a minute, in Hindi, English or both, ready to print on A4 or A3 or to share as an image on WhatsApp.
It's meant for house owners renting out a flat, floor or single room, PG and hostel owners, shop and office owners, and caretakers or property dealers who put up several boards a month. There are no templates to drag around: you fill in the details, and the layout sizes the text so the rent and number stay large however much you add.
How to make your To-Let poster
- Pick the language: English + हिंदी, Hindi only or English only.
- Choose the property (flat, house, room, PG, shop, office or godown) and its size, such as 2 BHK, 1 RK or single room.
- Add the rent per month, and the deposit, area, floor and furnishing if you want them on the poster. Leave anything empty to keep it off.
- Tap the facilities worth mentioning: parking, 24-hour water, lift, power backup, attached bathroom and so on.
- Type a short address or landmark, your name and your mobile number. Add a second number if someone else also shows the place.
- Turn on the WhatsApp QR code if you want people to message instead of calling.
- Choose a colour and a size, then download the PDF or PNG, or print directly.
What to put on a To-Let board
| Detail | Why it helps | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Type and size | Filters out people looking for something else | 2 BHK flat, single room, shop |
| Rent per month | The first question every caller asks | ₹ 12,000 / month |
| Deposit | Avoids surprises at the visit | ₹ 24,000 |
| Only for | States a preference up front | Family, girls only, working people |
| Floor and furnishing | Matters to older tenants and families | 2nd floor, semi-furnished |
| Two or three facilities | Answers common questions | Parking, 24-hour water |
| Landmark | Helps people find the place | Near Shiv Mandir, Sector 9 |
| Mobile number | Large and easy to copy | 98765 43210 |
Keep it short. A poster with eight facilities and a three-line address gets small text that nobody reads from the road. If the tool warns that the text is small, remove a facility or shorten the address.
Hindi, English or both
In most Indian towns a bilingual poster reaches the most people: TO-LET in large letters for everyone, with "किराये के लिए खाली है" underneath. The labels on the poster switch with the language too: Rent becomes किराया, Deposit becomes सिक्योरिटी, Contact becomes संपर्क करें, and floors read पहली मंज़िल, दूसरी मंज़िल and so on. Hindi is drawn with a proper Devanagari font, so matras and half letters print correctly in the PDF and the image. You can type your name and address in Hindi or English, whichever you prefer.
Choosing a design
There are four colour schemes. Red and white is the classic To-Let look that people recognise from a distance. Yellow copies the painted signboard style and stands out on grey walls and gates. Blue and green look calmer and suit office buildings, societies and shop fronts. Every design puts the heading in a solid band at the top, the rent in a large box and your number in its own panel, so the poster stays readable whichever colour you pick.
The size of the text adjusts itself. Add only the rent and number and both become very large; add deposit, area, floor, facilities and an address and the text shrinks just enough to fit. A note under the preview tells you when the text is getting too small for the size you chose.
Printing and putting it up
- A4 suits gates, poles, lift lobbies and society notice boards. A3 is better for a wall or balcony that is read from across the road. Any print shop can print the A3 PDF if your printer can't.
- Print the PDF at actual size. Colour looks best, but every design also reads clearly in black and white.
- Cut the tear-off strips along the dashed lines, up to the poster but not through it.
- For outdoor boards, slip the poster into a clear plastic sleeve or laminate it so rain doesn't wash out the number.
- Put one poster at the gate and one at the nearest main road or market corner, where more people pass.
- Share the WhatsApp image (1080 × 1350) in your society group, local buy-and-sell groups and your status.
Before you hand over the keys
A poster brings the calls; the paperwork comes after. Meet tenants at the property, keep a copy of their ID, and put the rent, deposit, notice period and maintenance charges in a written rent agreement. Many city police departments ask owners to get tenants verified, so check what your local police station requires. You can draft the agreement with our rent agreement generator and give monthly receipts with the rent receipt generator.
Once the place is let, take the posters down. An old To-Let board with your number keeps the calls coming for months.

Frequently asked questions
What should a To-Let board say?
The essentials are what is for rent (for example 2 BHK flat, room or shop), the monthly rent, who it is for if you have a preference, and a phone number. Deposit, floor, area and two or three key facilities help people decide before they call, which saves you time.
What is the Hindi for To-Let?
Common Hindi wordings are 'किराये के लिए खाली है' (vacant for rent) and 'मकान किराये पर देना है'. The tool's Hindi poster uses 'किराये के लिए खाली', and the English + Hindi option prints TO-LET with the Hindi line under it.
What size should a To-Let poster be?
A4 is fine for a gate, pole or notice board where people walk past. Choose A3 for a wall or balcony that is seen from the road. For sharing in society or local WhatsApp groups, use the 1080 × 1350 image.
How do tear-off strips work?
The bottom of the A4 or A3 poster has eight narrow strips, each with your number and 'TO-LET'. Cut along the dashed lines up to the poster, and people can tear one off and call you later.
Should I put the rent on the poster?
It's your choice, but posters with the rent get calls from people who can afford it, so you spend less time on calls that go nowhere. Leave the rent box empty if you prefer to discuss it.
What does the QR code do?
It opens a WhatsApp chat with your first mobile number and a ready message mentioning your poster, so people can enquire without typing your number. It needs a 10-digit Indian mobile number.
Is it free to print and use?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark, and the details you type stay in your browser. Print it at home or take the PDF to any print shop.
