A clean self-declaration in a couple of minutes
Government offices, schools, colleges, banks and insurers often ask for a "self-declaration" with an application: a short signed statement of your income, your address, the documents you are submitting, or your marital status. It is meant to be simple, but most people end up copying a blurry sample from the internet or paying a typist. This tool writes a tidy, correctly worded declaration from a short form, numbers the statements, and adds the closing declaration, place, date and signature lines.
It is for plain-paper declarations that you simply sign. If an office asks for a sworn statement before a notary on stamp paper, that is an affidavit: use our affidavit generator instead.

How to use it
- Choose what you are declaring from the buttons at the top.
- Say where it goes. Add the office's name and address if the declaration is a separate letter, and what it is for, such as "my application for an income certificate". Leave both empty if it will be stapled to a form.
- Enter your details: name, relation (son of, daughter of, wife of, husband of), age and address. Add a mobile number and the last 4 digits of Aadhaar if you like.
- Fill in the facts for the format you chose. Optional lines simply drop out if you leave them empty, and the numbering adjusts.
- Read it, download the PDF or Word file, print it, and sign it in ink. You can also add a scanned signature image.
Writing a declaration that gets accepted
- Use the office's own form if it has one. Many departments, boards and scheme portals publish a prescribed declaration format. If yours does, fill that in; this tool is for when no format is given.
- Match your documents. Write your name, your father's or husband's name and your address exactly as they appear on Aadhaar, the ration card or the marksheet you are submitting.
- Be specific. Give the financial year for income (for example 2025-26), a month and year for "living here since", and the full name of each document you attach.
- Income from all sources. For an income declaration, include every source for the household if the office asks for family income: salary, wages, farming, business, pension and rent.
- Sign and date it on the day you submit it, and keep a photocopy.
Self-declaration or affidavit?
Both are statements of fact made by you, and both can lead to legal action if they are false. The difference is formality. An affidavit is sworn or affirmed in front of a notary or oath commissioner, usually on stamp paper, and the notary records it. A self-declaration is just signed by you. Many offices accept a self-declaration where an affidavit is not specifically required, which saves you the cost of stamp paper and notary fees. The office you are applying to decides, so read its instructions or ask at the counter.
Hindi declarations
Choose हिन्दी and the declaration is written as a स्व-घोषणा पत्र, starting with "सेवा में" when you add an addressee. Verbs follow your gender: a woman's declaration says "घोषणा करती हूँ", a man's "घोषणा करता हूँ". Income is written in Hindi words as well as figures, for example ₹96,000 (छियानवे हज़ार रुपये मात्र). Names and addresses can be typed in Hindi or left in English, and Hindi prints correctly in the PDF.
Signing and attaching it
Print the declaration on clean A4 paper and sign it in blue or black ink just above your printed name. If the declaration lists documents, self-attest each photocopy by signing it and writing "self-attested" with the date, and attach them in the same order as the list. Where the office asks for a photograph, paste a recent passport-size photo at the top right and sign across its edge only if the instructions say so. Submit the original and keep a copy for your records.
Privacy
Everything happens in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, and your details are saved only on your own device so you can come back and edit them. Put only the last 4 digits of Aadhaar on a declaration unless the office's own form asks for the full number.
This is a draft format, not legal advice. Declare only what you know to be true, because a false declaration can lead to legal action and the cancellation of any certificate or benefit obtained with it.

Frequently asked questions
What is a self-declaration?
A signed statement in which you declare facts about yourself, such as your income or address, on plain paper. Unlike an affidavit, it is not sworn before a notary or oath commissioner and usually needs no stamp paper. Many offices accept it with an application.
What is the difference between a self-declaration and an affidavit?
An affidavit is sworn or affirmed before a notary or oath commissioner, usually on stamp paper. A self-declaration is simply signed by you. If the office asks for an affidavit, use our affidavit generator instead.
Does a self-declaration need stamp paper or a notary?
Usually not, which is the point of it. But the office you submit it to decides what it accepts. If it asks for stamp paper, notarisation or its own printed form, follow its instructions.
What should a self-declaration for an income certificate say?
Your name, father's or husband's name, age and address; whether the income is yours or your family's; the annual income from all sources for a stated financial year, in figures and words; the source of income; and a statement that nothing has been concealed. Choose the Income format and the tool writes all of this.
Can I use it as address proof?
Some offices accept a self-declaration of residence along with other documents, but many don't accept it alone. Check the list of documents the office accepts before relying on it.
What happens if a self-declaration is false?
Giving false information in a declaration can lead to legal action, and any certificate or benefit obtained with it can be cancelled. Only declare what you know to be true.
Can I make it in Hindi?
Yes. Choose हिन्दी for a स्व-घोषणा पत्र, with amounts in Hindi words and verbs matching your gender. Hindi prints correctly in the PDF and Word file.
