What this QR code generator does

A QR code is a square pattern that a phone camera turns back into text. What happens next depends on that text: a web link opens in the browser, a Wi-Fi code offers to join the network, a contact card offers to save a new contact, and a tel: code offers to call. This tool writes the text in the right format for each job, draws a styled QR code from it, and lays it out on a poster you can print.

It is useful for almost anyone in India who deals with the public: a cafe sharing its guest Wi-Fi, a PG owner putting the network details on each floor, a real estate agent printing a contact QR on visiting cards, a coaching centre linking its admission form, a wedding family sharing the venue location, or a shop owner putting its website on a carry bag.

Everything is made in your browser. Nothing you type, not even a Wi-Fi password, is sent to a server, and the code works without any account or subscription.

How to make a QR code

  1. Pick what the code should do: Website, Text, Wi-Fi, Contact card, Email, SMS, Phone call, Location or Event.
  2. Fill in the details. The text that goes inside the QR is shown under the preview, so you can check it.
  3. Edit the poster heading and sub-line, for example "Scan to connect to Wi-Fi" or "Scan to see our menu". The name line fills itself from your details, and you can change it.
  4. Choose a design: a poster, a fold-in-half table tent, a counter stand, a square sticker or a card. Pick colours, a dot style and a centre icon, or upload your own logo.
  5. Choose Download PDF for real print sizes on A4 paper (an A4 poster or table tent, A5, A6 stand inserts, stickers or cards, with cut lines), or download the poster as a PNG. Switch to "QR only" for the bare code as a PNG (600, 1200 or 2400 px), an SVG, or a sheet of 50 or 75 mm QR stickers.
  6. Scan it with two different phones, then print.

What goes inside each type of QR code

Phones only act on a QR code if its text follows a known format. These are the formats this tool uses:

TypeText inside the QRWhat the phone does
Websitehttps://www.example.in/menuOpens the link
Wi-FiWIFI:T:WPA;S:Cafe Guest;P:chai2026;H:false;;Offers to join the network
Contact cardvCard 3.0 (BEGIN:VCARD … END:VCARD)Offers to save the contact
Emailmailto:orders@example.in?subject=…Opens a new email
SMSSMSTO:+919876543210:messageOpens a new SMS
Phone calltel:+919876543210Offers to call
LocationA map search link or geo:19.0760,72.8777Opens the map
EventBEGIN:VEVENT … END:VEVENTOffers to add a calendar entry, where supported

The Wi-Fi, SMS and geo formats are the ones described in the ZXing barcode contents guide, which most scanner apps follow. In a Wi-Fi code, the characters \ ; , : " in the network name or password must be escaped with a backslash; the tool does this for you, so a password like chai;2026 still works. Contact cards follow vCard 3.0 (RFC 2426), and mobile numbers are saved with the country code (+91 by default) so they work even when the person scanning is abroad.

Website QR codes

Type the address with or without https://; the tool adds it if it is missing. Use the final address rather than a link shortener, so the code keeps working even if the shortening service stops. If the page might move later, point the code at a page on your own website and keep that page up to date.

Location QR codes

Paste a map link from your browser's address bar, type the coordinates (for example 28.6129, 77.2295), or tap "Use my current location" while standing at the place. The "Map link" option builds a standard map search link that opens in the browser or a maps app on any phone. The "geo:" option hands the coordinates to the phone's default map app instead. A short share link from the map app (such as maps.app.goo.gl) has no coordinates inside, so the tool puts the link itself in the QR; it still opens the place on any phone with internet.

Event QR codes

The event type stores the name, start and end time, venue and a note. Some phone cameras open it straight into the calendar, while others show the details as text, so print the date and time on the poster as well. This is handy for a society function, a school annual day or a wedding reception.

Tips for a QR code that always scans

  • Dark on light. Use dark dots on a white or very light background. Inverted codes (light dots on dark) fail on some scanners.
  • Give it room. The white border around the code (the quiet zone) is part of the code. Do not crop it or print text right up to the edge.
  • Size for the distance. A code on a visiting card is scanned from a few centimetres away; one on a shop board may be scanned from a metre or more. Bigger distance needs a bigger print.
  • Less text, easier scan. A long paragraph makes a dense pattern with tiny dots. Keep text codes short, or put long content on a web page and link to it.
  • Logos with care. A small, simple logo in the centre is fine because the code then uses the highest error correction. Do not cover the three large corner squares.
  • Test before you print fifty. Scan the final file on an Android phone and an iPhone, in normal shop lighting.

Common mistakes

  • Wrong Wi-Fi name. The network name is case-sensitive. "Sharma Cafe" and "sharma cafe" are different networks.
  • Old details. A changed phone number or Wi-Fi password makes every printed copy useless. Make a new code and replace the old prints.
  • Using a screenshot. Screenshots are often blurry when printed. Download the PNG or SVG instead.
  • Brand logos. Do not add other companies' logos to your poster unless you have permission. The icons in this tool are plain, generic shapes.

This is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with Google, Apple, Android or any QR scanner app, and those names are used only to describe compatibility.

Frequently asked questions

Do these QR codes expire?

No. The QR code is a picture of the text or link you typed, made in your browser. There is no tracking link in between, so nothing can be switched off later. It keeps working as long as the website, phone number or Wi-Fi password inside it stays the same.

Is this QR code generator really free for business use?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit on how many codes you make and no watermark on the PNG, SVG or posters. You can print them on menus, packaging, visiting cards and shop boards.

Can I change the link after printing the QR code?

No. These are static QR codes, so the link is stored inside the pattern itself. If the link may change, point the QR to a page you control, such as your own website, and update that page instead. Then the printed code never needs to change.

Why is my QR code not scanning?

Common causes are a print that is too small, low contrast between the dots and the background, a large logo, or a light colour on a light background. Keep the code at least 2 to 3 cm wide for close scanning, use dark dots on a white background, and test with two phones before printing many copies.

Can I add my logo in the middle of the QR code?

Yes. Choose 'My logo (upload)' under Centre icon. The tool then uses the highest error correction level so the code still scans with a logo covering part of it. Keep logos simple and scan the result before you print.

Can I make a QR code in Hindi or another Indian language?

Yes. Text, contact cards and event details can be typed in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali or any other script. The text is stored as UTF-8, which most phone cameras and scanner apps read correctly. Scan it once on your own phone to check before you print.

How do I make a QR code for my location, for example on a wedding card?

Choose Location, then paste a map link or the coordinates of the venue, or tap Use my current location while you are there. Add the place name and print the QR only, about 2 to 3 cm wide, on the card with a line such as Scan for the venue location. Test it with two phones before printing the cards.

How do I make a QR code for a Google Form?

Open the form, use its Send option to copy the form link, then paste it into the Website type here. Print it on a poster with a heading such as Scan to register. Anyone who scans it opens the form; check the form's own settings for who is allowed to fill it.

Can I make a QR code for a PDF?

A QR code holds a link, not a file, and this tool does not host files. Upload the PDF somewhere it can be opened, such as Google Drive set to anyone with the link, or your own website, then paste that link into the Website type. If the file moves, the QR stops working, so keep it in one place.
