The PDF page is the real plate size, with the design as a 200 DPI image. Show it to your sign maker for approval or print it as a sticker; for laser-cut steel or acrylic letters they usually set the words again in their own software from your design. Nothing is uploaded and there is no watermark.

See the name plate before you pay for it
Ordering a name plate usually goes like this: you send the wording on WhatsApp, the shop sends back a mock-up a day or two later, and you go back and forth over the spelling, the font and the size. It is hard to judge from a phone photo how big 12 × 8 inches really is, or whether the Hindi line will fit.
This tool lets you try it yourself first. Type the house or family name, the names and the house number, choose a material look, a shape, a motif and the size, and you see the plate at once. When you like it, download a PDF at the real size of the plate. Hold the printout against the wall or gate, check the letters from the road, then take it to the sign maker.
How to design your name plate
- Choose where it goes. House / main gate, Office / clinic door, or Desk / table. This sets a suitable size and labels for the lines.
- Write the words. A small top line (ॐ, ॥ श्री ॥, स्वागतम् or Welcome), the main line, and up to three more lines. Each line has its own Hindi typing switch, so the main line can be शर्मा निवास while the rest stays in English.
- Pick a material look. Black acrylic, teak wood, brushed steel, brass, black granite, white marble, white or maroon acrylic, or an LED-glow look for backlit plates.
- Set the details. Letter colour (gold, silver, white, black, copper, maroon or blue), shape (rectangle, rounded, arch top or oval), fonts for the main line and the other lines, a motif and where it sits, the border, and whether to show standoff screws.
- Choose the size. Pick a common size or enter your own in inches or centimetres.
- Download. The PDF is at real size, with an optional cut line and margin. PNG is handy for sending on WhatsApp. For desks, "Desk tent card (A4)" prints a fold-up card.
Common name plate sizes
| Size | In cm | Where it is commonly used |
|---|---|---|
| 12 × 8 inch | 30.5 × 20.3 cm | House wall beside the door, flat entrance |
| 18 × 12 inch | 45.7 × 30.5 cm | Main gate or pillar, seen from the road |
| 16 × 8 or 15 × 10 inch | 40.6 × 20.3 / 38.1 × 25.4 cm | Wider family names, bungalows |
| 24 × 12 inch | 61 × 30.5 cm | Large gates, farmhouses, building names |
| 12 × 4 inch | 30.5 × 10.2 cm | Office, clinic or flat door |
| 10 × 3 or 8 × 2 inch | 25.4 × 7.6 / 20.3 × 5.1 cm | Desk and table plates, cabin doors |
These are sizes shops commonly offer, not rules. Measure the space, leave a margin around the plate, and use Custom size if your wall or pillar needs something else.
What to write on a house name plate
- House or family name: शर्मा निवास, Verma Villa, Gupta Sadan, आशीर्वाद. Keep it short; it is the biggest line.
- Names: the heads of the family, for example "Rajesh Sharma · Sunita Sharma". Titles such as Dr., Adv. or Er. go here.
- House number: written the way your address uses it, such as "H. No. 245" or "B-12". It helps visitors and delivery riders.
- Street or colony: optional. Many people leave it off for privacy.
Office and clinic plates usually carry the name, qualification, designation and timings. A desk plate needs only the name and designation.
Tips before you order
- Check the spelling twice. Engraved or cut letters cannot be corrected later. Read the Hindi slowly, especially matras and half letters.
- Fewer words, bigger letters. A plate with three lines reads from far away; five crowded lines do not.
- Pick contrast. Gold or white on dark materials, dark letters on steel, brass and marble.
- Print it and hold it up. The real-size PDF, printed at a print shop if it is bigger than A3, shows how large the letters will look from the gate.
- Ask about the build. How the letters are made (printed, engraved, laser-cut or raised), the thickness, and how the plate is fixed to the wall all change the look and the price.
- Keep a copy. Your last design is saved in this browser, so you can come back and change one line.
Choosing a motif
A small motif gives a plate character without crowding the words. The lotus, kalash, diya and mandala are popular on homes; the tree and house shapes suit any family; leaf corners frame the words without taking space from them. Put the motif on the left for a wide plate, on both sides for a symmetrical look, or above the words on a taller plate. All motifs are drawn as simple shapes in the letter colour, so they can be cut or engraved along with the text.
About the PDF
The PDF page is the exact size of the plate, plus a 10 mm margin with corner marks if you leave the cut line on. The design inside is a high-resolution image at 200 dots per inch, which prints sharply as a sticker or flex and is clear enough for approval. Shops that cut steel or acrylic letters with a laser or CNC machine normally redraw the text in their own design software; your PDF tells them the exact wording, layout and size.
Privacy
Your names and address are drawn inside your browser and are not uploaded. There is no sign-up and no watermark.
Frequently asked questions
What is the standard size of a house name plate?
There is no fixed standard. Sign makers commonly offer 12 × 8 inch for a house door or wall, 18 × 12 inch for a main gate or pillar, and 12 × 4 inch for flat or office doors. Desk plates are often around 10 × 3 inch. Measure the space and choose Custom size if yours is different.
Can I write the name plate in Hindi and English together?
Yes. A common layout is the house or family name in Hindi on top, such as शर्मा निवास, with the names and house number in English below. Turn on Hindi typing for any line to type sharma niwas and get शर्मा निवास.
Can a sign maker use this PDF to make the plate?
The PDF page is the real size of the plate, so it shows exactly how big the letters will be. Use it to agree the design and wording. For laser-cut or engraved letters the sign maker usually sets the words again in their own software, using your PDF as the reference.
Which material should I choose for an outdoor name plate?
For a wall or gate in sun and rain, people commonly choose stainless steel, granite, brass or thick acrylic with raised letters. Ask the sign maker about the grade of steel or acrylic and how the letters are fixed, because that decides how long it lasts outdoors.
Can I add Om or a religious symbol?
You can put ॐ, ॥ श्री ॥ or any word of your choice in the small top line. The motifs offered, such as lotus, kalash, diya and mandala, are simple shapes. No images of deities are used.
How do I make a desk name plate?
Choose Desk / table, type the name and designation, and download 'Desk tent card (A4)'. It prints both faces on one A4 sheet; cut on the outer line and fold to make a standing card, or give the real-size PDF to a shop for an acrylic or wooden desk plate.
Is this free, and is anything uploaded?
It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The design is drawn in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded.
