A picture of your signature is not a digital signature (DSC) or Aadhaar eSign. Keep the file private and only use it where an image of a signature is accepted.

Make a clean signature image in a minute

You often need your signature as an image file: to place on a rent agreement draft you will print, on an invoice or letterhead, in a resume, or as the signature upload in an exam or job form. Scanning on a crumpled sheet usually gives a grey background and a file that is too big. This signature maker gives you a crisp signature with a see-through background, trimmed to the ink, in three ways:

  • Draw it with your finger on a phone, with a stylus, or with a mouse. Lines are smoothed and get thinner when you move fast, like a real pen.
  • Type your name and pick one of 20 handwriting styles. Each style shows your own name, so you can compare them side by side.
  • From photo: sign on paper, take a photo, and the tool removes the paper, shadows and uneven light, keeping only the ink.

Everything runs in your browser. Your signature is not uploaded or stored, and there is no sign-up or watermark.

How to use the signature maker

  1. Pick a method. Choose Draw, Type or From photo at the top.
  2. Make the signature. Sign on the pad (turn your phone sideways for more room), type your name and tap a style, or upload a photo of your signature on white paper and drag over it to select just the signature.
  3. Choose the ink. Black or blue. For a photo you can also keep the original ink colour.
  4. Set the space. "Space around the signature" adds a little margin after the empty area is trimmed away.
  5. Download. Save a transparent PNG for documents, a white-background JPG for forms that do not accept PNG, or an exam-size JPG at the exact pixel size and KB range.

Signatures for exam and job forms

Most recruitment and entrance exam portals ask for a scanned signature as a JPG with a fixed size. The exam section of this tool uses the same official presets as our exam photo and signature resizer. For example, the IBPS and SBI notices ask for a signature of 140 × 60 pixels (preferred) and 10–20 KB; see the IBPS PO photo and signature size page for details and the source. If a notice gives the size in centimetres instead, such as about 6 × 2 cm, choose Custom size, set the unit to cm and pick the DPI; the tool works out the pixels (6 × 2 cm at 200 DPI is 472 × 157 pixels).

For exam forms, use your real handwritten signature: sign on plain white paper with a black pen, take a sharp photo in daylight, and use From photo. Several notices say a signature in capital letters will not be accepted, and the signature you upload should match the one you will put on the answer sheet and documents later. A typed signature in a handwriting font is not your signature for these purposes, so keep the Type option for informal use such as an email footer.

A signature image is not a digital signature

It is important to be clear about what this file is, and what it is not.

  • A signature image (what this tool makes) is a picture of your handwritten signature. Anyone who has the file can copy it, and it carries no proof of who placed it on a document.
  • A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is issued to you by a Certifying Authority. The Controller of Certifying Authorities licenses these authorities, which then issue DSCs to people and organisations. A DSC is what portals mean when they ask you to sign "with DSC".
  • eSign is an online electronic signature service. The CCA describes eSign as a service integrated into applications, where your identity is checked through e-KYC (for example with an OTP), and the signing key is used once and destroyed.

Under the Information Technology Act, 2000, an electronic record can be authenticated with a digital signature, or with an electronic signature technique listed in the Act's Second Schedule (Section 3A, added by the IT (Amendment) Act, 2008). A pasted picture of your signature is neither of these. So when a government portal, bank or company asks you to sign electronically, use the DSC or eSign method it offers, not an image.

A signature image is still useful wherever an image is what is asked for: exam and job uploads, a document you will print and sign by hand, or a letter where the other person is happy with a scanned signature. If you are unsure whether an image is acceptable for an agreement or a legal document, ask the other party or a lawyer before relying on it.

Tips for a better result

  • Drawing: sign slowly and in one or two strokes, the way you sign on paper. Use Undo to remove the last stroke rather than clearing everything.
  • Thickness: a medium pen thickness looks most natural. Very thin lines can break up when the image is shrunk for exam forms.
  • Photos: sign on plain white paper with a dark ball pen or gel pen, place it flat near a window and photograph it from straight above, without your phone's shadow on the page.
  • Ink strength: if parts of the signature fade away, move the slider right. If grey marks from the paper show up, move it left or drag a tighter box around the signature.
  • Keep it safe: do not post your signature image on social media or send it to people you do not know. Delete copies you no longer need.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a signature with a transparent background?

Draw or type your signature here, or upload a photo of it signed on white paper, then press Transparent PNG. The tool keeps only the ink, trims the empty space and saves a PNG with a see-through background, so it sits cleanly on a white or coloured page.

How do I make a stylish signature for my name?

Open the Type tab and type your name. You see it in 20 handwriting styles at once; tap one to use it, then adjust the slant and ink colour. For a signature you will sign by hand, copy the style you like on paper a few times until it feels natural.

How do I remove the background from a signature photo?

Open the From photo tab, add a photo of your signature on white paper and drag a box around it. The tool keeps only the ink and removes the paper and shadows, so you can download a transparent PNG or a clean white JPG.

How do I resize my signature to 10–20 KB or a size in cm?

In the Exam form size section, pick your exam, or choose Custom size and enter pixels or a size in cm or mm with a DPI, such as 6 × 2 cm at 200 DPI. Set the KB range, for example 10 to 20, and download the JPG.

Is a signature image the same as a digital signature?

No. An image of your handwritten signature is just a picture. A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is issued by a Certifying Authority licensed by the Controller of Certifying Authorities, and Aadhaar-based eSign is a separate online signing service. Use a DSC or eSign wherever a portal or law asks for a digital or electronic signature.

Can I use this signature for IBPS, SBI or other exam forms?

Many exam notices ask for a scanned signature made with a black pen on white paper. The best way is to sign on paper, take a clear photo, and use the From photo option, then pick your exam in the Exam form size section to get the exact pixel size and KB range. Do not type your name in a font for an exam form.

What is the signature size for IBPS and SBI forms?

The tool's exam presets come from official notices. IBPS and SBI recruitment notices ask for 140 × 60 pixels (preferred) and 10–20 KB. Always check the notice for your recruitment, because sizes can change between years.

How do I sign on my phone without the page moving?

The signing pad stops the page from scrolling while your finger is on it, so you can sign freely. Turn your phone sideways for a wider pad, sign slowly, and use Undo to remove the last stroke if it goes wrong.

Is my signature saved or uploaded anywhere?

No. Your drawn, typed or photographed signature is processed inside your browser and is not sent to us or stored. Only your typed name and settings are remembered on your own device for next time. Keep the downloaded file private, as you would any copy of your signature.

Which handwriting fonts are used for typed signatures?

Twenty free fonts released under the SIL Open Font License or the Apache License, including Great Vibes, Dancing Script, Sacramento, Allura, Parisienne, Pinyon Script, Mrs Saint Delafield, Yellowtail, Homemade Apple and Ms Madi. Each one downloads only when its preview comes into view, so the page stays light.
