A picture of your signature is not a digital signature (DSC) or Aadhaar eSign. Keep the file private and only use it where an image of a signature is accepted.

Turn a paper signature into a clean image

Most people already have a good signature: the one they sign on paper every day. The problem is getting it onto a computer. A phone photo of a signed page brings along the paper colour, shadows from your hand, ruled lines and an uneven light, and none of that looks right on a document or a form.

This page opens the signature maker straight on the From photo tab. It separates the ink from the paper, so you get only the strokes of your signature, either on a see-through background or on pure white.

How to remove the background

  1. Sign on plain paper. Use a black or dark blue pen on white, unlined paper. A gel or felt pen gives bolder strokes than a ballpoint.
  2. Take a photo. Hold the phone straight above the paper in daylight or under a bright light, and keep your shadow off the page.
  3. Add the photo here. Drag a box around the signature so the tool ignores the rest of the page. Use Rotate if the photo is sideways.
  4. Adjust the ink strength. The tool picks a starting level on its own. Slide right if thin strokes fade, left if shadows show.
  5. Download. Choose Transparent PNG for documents and letterheads, White JPG for places that do not accept transparency, or an exam size.

Why it handles shadows

A simple background remover treats every pixel darker than a fixed level as ink. That fails on real photos, where one corner of the page is bright and the other is grey. This tool first estimates how bright the paper is in each part of the photo, then looks for marks that are darker than the paper around them. Shadows and gradual light changes drop out, while pen strokes stay. The edges of the strokes keep their softness, so the result does not look jagged when you place it on a page.

For forms that give the size in centimetres, such as 6 × 2 cm, choose Custom size in the exam section, pick cm and enter the DPI from the notice. The tool works out the pixels and lands the file inside the KB range.

Keep your signature safe

An image of your signature can be copied by anyone who gets the file, so treat it like a copy of an ID. This tool does not upload or store it. Save the file somewhere private, and do not post it publicly. Remember also that a signature image is not a digital signature certificate or Aadhaar eSign; use those where a portal or law asks for a digital signature.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove the background from my signature?

Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen, take a clear photo in good light and add it here. Drag on the photo to select just the signature. The tool keeps the ink, removes the paper, shadows and lines, and you can download a transparent PNG or a white JPG.

Is my signature uploaded to a server?

No. Many background removers upload your image to process it. This one does all the work inside your browser on your own phone or computer, so the signature photo never leaves your device and is gone when you close the page.

Parts of my signature disappear. What should I do?

Move the Ink strength slider to the right until all of the strokes come back. If grey patches from shadows appear, move it a little to the left. A darker pen, more light and holding the phone straight above the paper also help a lot.

Can I use the result on a PAN card or exam form?

For online forms that ask for a scanned signature image, yes: pick your exam or enter the size in the Exam form size section and download a JPG in the right pixel size and KB range. Follow each form's own instructions about ink colour and size.

Can I make the ink blue or black?

Yes. Choose Black, Blue or As in photo under Ink colour. Black and blue make the strokes one even colour, which looks neat on documents; As in photo keeps the original pen colour.
