Nothing is uploaded. No watermark. This is a family chart for projects and keepsakes; an official vanshavali or family register comes from your tehsil, panchayat or municipal office.
A written family line, the way elders keep it
Long before photo charts, families kept their वंशावली as a written list: the name of the eldest known ancestor, then his sons and daughters one below the other, then their children, each generation a little further in. Family priests at pilgrimage towns still keep such records, and many households have one copied into a diary or the back of an old register. It is the quickest way to answer questions like "whose grandson is he?" at a wedding or a family puja.
This page sets the family tree maker up for exactly that: Hindi names, Hindi relation words, and the vanshavali list layout. You can switch to a tree chart at any time with one tap.
Making the vanshavali
- Start from the eldest. Tap "Vanshavali from the eldest" and write the oldest ancestor whose name the family remembers, with his birth year or years if known. Tick "Late (स्वर्गीय)" for those who have passed away; the list writes स्व. before their Hindi names.
- Add his wife. Choose Husband / wife and write her name. In the list she appears on the same line after पत्नी.
- Add the next generation. Add each son and daughter with Son or Daughter. Birth years keep them in order of age.
- Keep going down. For every son or daughter, add the husband or wife and then their children. Use "+ Relative" next to any name in the list of family members to add to that branch.
- Add notes. The short note is a good place for the village, गोत्र, profession or the town a branch moved to.
- Download. The PDF uses as many pages as the list needs. Print one for each household.
Reading the list
Each line starts with a small circle, blue for men and pink for women. A line joins every person to the parent above, so you can follow any branch back to the ancestor. The person born into the family is written first in bold, followed by पत्नी or पति and the spouse's name. Years and notes sit in brackets after each name.
When a woman of the family has her parents added as well, for example a mother's side added for the children, that family appears as a separate block below a dotted line. This keeps the main line clean while still recording the other family.
Keeping it up to date
A vanshavali is never finished: children are born, marriages bring new names. Tap "Save family file" after each change. The file holds everything, including photos if you added any, and opens again on any phone or computer with "Open family file". Send it to a cousin and they can add their own branch.
A family record, not a certificate
This list is for the family. Revenue and panchayat offices issue their own family registers and genealogy certificates for legal and land matters, under each state's rules, and only those count as official. A neat list made here can still help you collect the names and years correctly before you apply.

Frequently asked questions
वंशावली कैसे बनाएं?
'Vanshavali from the eldest' चुनें और सबसे बड़े पूर्वज का नाम लिखें। फिर '+ Relative' से उनके बेटे-बेटियाँ जोड़ें, फिर उनकी पत्नी या पति और बच्चे। Layout में 'Vanshavali list' चुनें और PDF डाउनलोड करें।
Can I type the names in Hindi without a Hindi keyboard?
Yes. Switch on 'Type Hindi with English letters' and type the name the way you would in a chat: ramswaroop sharma becomes रामस्वरूप शर्मा when you press Space. Tap a chip for another spelling.
Does the vanshavali show daughters and their families?
Yes. Daughters appear in the list like sons, with their husbands, and you can add their children too. If you only want the male line, simply don't add those branches.
Can this be used as an official vanshavali?
No. It is a family record you make yourself. An official vanshavali, family register or genealogy certificate is issued by the tehsil, gram panchayat or municipal office, and the process differs by state.
What if the vanshavali is very long?
The list layout runs over as many A4 or A3 pages as it needs in the PDF. Save the family file as well, so you can add new births and marriages later without starting again.
