The PDF has the pages you tick, room by room. The Excel file lists every student's room and seat, with a grid sheet per room. No limit on students, and nothing leaves your browser.

Seating in plain roll-number order

Many exams don't need mixing at all. A single class writing a test, a coaching institute's mock exam for one batch, a school's entrance test for new admissions, or an exam where each room holds one paper: here the simplest arrangement is the best one. Candidates sit in order of their roll numbers, room after room, and anyone can find their seat from a list on the door.

This page opens the exam seating plan generator with Roll-number order already chosen. You give it the roll numbers and the rooms; it fills the first room from the first roll number, moves to the next room when it's full, and prints the charts and lists.

Setting it up

  1. Type the exam name and date so they print on every page.
  2. Enter the roll numbers as ranges, for example Entrance test: 26001-26240, or paste the list of roll numbers and names from Excel.
  3. List the rooms in the order you want them filled, each with rows and seats in a row: Room 1, 6, 5.
  4. Choose how seats fill: column by column from the front, or row by row. The seat numbers on the chart follow the same order.
  5. Download the PDF with room charts, door lists and the notice-board list. Add attendance sheets and desk slips if you need them.

An example

RoomSeatsRoll numbers
Room 16 rows × 5 = 3026001–26030
Room 26 rows × 5 = 3026031–26060
Hall10 rows × 8 = 8026061–26140

The notice board then needs only three lines, and each door list shows a single range. If some numbers are missing, such as withdrawn candidates, leave them out of the list and the ranges adjust.

When to switch to mixed seating

If two classes or two sections writing the same paper share a room, roll-number order puts classmates side by side. Switch Seating to Mix classes and the tool keeps students of the same class (or paper) apart from the people next to, in front of and behind them. You can switch back and forth and watch the charts update.

What gets printed

  • Room chart: the room seen from the front, each seat with its roll number and seat number.
  • Door list: the room name in large letters with the roll range inside.
  • Notice-board list: class by class, the roll ranges and their rooms.
  • Attendance sheet and desk slips, if you tick them.

Board, university and recruitment exams follow the seating instructions of their conducting body. Use this for school, college and coaching exams, entrance tests you run yourself, or wherever you decide the seating. Everything is worked out in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

What is a roll-number-wise seating arrangement?

Candidates sit in order of their roll numbers: the first room takes the first block of numbers, filled seat by seat, then the next room continues. Each room's door shows one or two simple ranges, so candidates find their seat quickly.

Can I seat several classes in roll-number order?

Yes. Classes are seated one after another in the order you list them. If you'd rather mix the classes so that neighbours are from different classes, switch Seating to Mix classes.

What if roll numbers are not continuous?

Type the ranges and single numbers separated by commas, like '1001-1040, 1043, 1050-1065', or paste the exact list from Excel. Missing numbers are simply skipped.

How do candidates know their room?

Print the notice-board list. It shows, class by class, which roll numbers sit in which room, and each room's door list repeats its own ranges in large print.
