A rate list customers can read at a glance
A rate list does a simpler job than a restaurant menu. It has to show many items and their current rates, be readable from the other side of a counter, and be easy to update when prices move. Most shops end up with a handwritten chart or a photocopy of an old list with prices crossed out. This page gives you a typed, tidy version that you can print on A4 for the counter or on A3 for the wall, and share as an image in your customers' WhatsApp group.
The shop sample loads with groceries grouped into atta, dal and rice; oil, sugar and spices; and daily needs. Change them to whatever you sell: sweets and namkeen, dairy products, fruits and vegetables, hardware or stationery.
Set it up in five minutes
- Type your shop name, and the Hindi name if your customers read Hindi.
- Keep or rename the sections, then paste your items, one per line, such as
Toor Dal (per kg), 160. - For sweets or namkeen, switch on two prices and name them 500 g and 1 kg. Paste lines like
Motichoor Laddu, 240, 480. - Put the date in the tagline, for example "Rates as on 15 October".
- Download the A4 PDF for the counter, or switch the layout to A3 for a wall chart.
Write the unit with every item
Most counter disputes come from units, not prices. Put the unit in the item name: per kg, 500 g, 1 litre, per dozen, per piece. For loose items whose rate changes daily, type "Today's rate" or leave the rate blank. The tool prints text exactly as you type it, adding the ₹ sign only when the rate starts with a number.
| You type | The rate list shows |
|---|---|
| 48 | ₹48 |
| 1100 | ₹1,100 |
| 60/kg | ₹60/kg |
| Market price | Market price |
If you prefer plain numbers without the rupee sign, untick "Show ₹ before prices".
Keep it current without starting again
Your list is saved in this browser on this device. When rates change, open the page again, edit only what moved and download a new copy. Nothing is sent to a server, so the list stays private. If you use two devices, keep the downloaded PDF with you; the saved list does not sync between devices.
Food shops and FSSAI
If you sell food, such as a sweet shop, bakery or dairy, you can print your 14-digit FSSAI licence or registration number in the footer. FSSAI requires that number to be displayed at the premises, so the rate list on your wall is a sensible place for it. The veg mark (a green circle in a green square) is optional on a rate list; switch the marks off if they do not suit your shop.
Make it easy to pay
Add a UPI QR in step 3 and customers can pay by scanning the rate list itself. The QR opens a payment to your UPI ID in any UPI app and the customer types the amount. Keep it at least 2 cm wide when printed, and test it before you laminate the sheet.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a rate list for my shop?
Open this page and the shop sample loads. Replace the items and rates with yours, or paste them one per line, such as 'Sugar (per kg), 46'. Pick a design and download an A4 or A3 PDF to print, or a JPG to send on WhatsApp.
Can I show rates for two quantities, like 500 g and 1 kg?
Yes. Turn on 'Two prices' in a section and name the columns 500 g and 1 kg, or 250 g and 500 g. Each item then has two rate boxes. Pasting 'Kaju Katli, 560, 1100' fills both at once.
How do I update the rate list when prices change?
Your list is saved in this browser, so come back to the same page on the same device, change the rates and download again. Add the date in the tagline, such as 'Rates as on 15 October', so customers know it is current.
Which design prints best on a photocopier?
Choose the Black & white design. It uses only black lines and text, so photocopies and cheap laser prints stay sharp. Switch off the veg/non-veg marks if your shop does not sell cooked food.
Can customers pay by scanning the rate list?
Yes. In step 3 choose UPI payment and enter your UPI ID. The QR in the footer opens a payment to you in any UPI app, and the customer types the amount. Test it with your own phone before printing.
