A poster for the day of remembrance

A punyatithi is the death anniversary of a loved one. Many families mark it with a prayer, a havan, a visit to the temple or gurudwara, feeding people in need, or simply by gathering at home around the person's photo. The first anniversary, the pratham punyatithi, is often the most important, and a poster shared in the family WhatsApp group lets relatives far away remember the person on the same day.

This page opens the poster maker set up for a punyatithi: the heading प्रथम पुण्यतिथि, a line of remembrance, the deep maroon template and a pair of diyas. Change any of it in a tap.

Making a punyatithi poster

  1. Add the photo you usually keep at home, and zoom it so the face sits in the middle of the frame. Turn on "Black and white photo" for an old print that has faded unevenly.
  2. Check the heading. For a later anniversary, type द्वितीय पुण्यतिथि, तृतीय पुण्यतिथि or "5वीं पुण्यतिथि", or choose पुण्यतिथि पर शत् शत् नमन.
  3. Type the name and dates. The dates of birth and passing go under the name. Choose "Year only" if you prefer something like 1948 – 2025.
  4. Write a line or two from the family, or tap a ready line.
  5. Add the programme (optional): turn on the details box and type, for example, हवन एवं श्रद्धांजलि with the date, time and place.
  6. Download a square PNG for WhatsApp, a 1080 × 1920 image for status, or an A4 PDF to print and keep near the photo.

Some regions use other words, such as barsi, for the yearly remembrance. Type whatever your family uses; the poster draws any Hindi or English text correctly.

Keeping the tone right

A remembrance poster works best when it is calm and personal. Use a photo the family likes, a heading in the language your relatives read, and a line that sounds like you rather than a long poem. Maroon and Ivory suit a traditional printed poster; Charcoal and Slate look quiet and modern on a phone screen. The diyas and corner flowers are optional, so leave them off if your family prefers a plain design.

Printing for the prayer

If the family is gathering at home or in a hall, a printed poster beside the photo helps visitors who did not see the message. Choose A4, download the PDF and print it at actual size on thick paper, or ask a print shop to laminate it so it can be kept for later years.

For the first days after a loss, use the main shradhanjali poster maker, which opens with भावपूर्ण श्रद्धांजलि and room for prayer meeting details. Nothing you add here is uploaded, and there is no watermark.
