रुपये को हिंदी शब्दों में लिखना, आसान तरीके से
Hindi amounts are trickier than English ones. In English, 21 to 99 follow a pattern (twenty-one, twenty-two…), but in Hindi almost every number from one to ninety-nine has its own word: इक्कीस, बाईस, तेईस… उनचास, पचास, इक्यावन. Most of us use them in speech every day but hesitate when writing them on a cheque, a receipt, a court form or a school worksheet. This page puts the Hindi version first: type the figures and read the Hindi words straight away, with the English and international versions below for comparison.
How the Hindi number system works
Hindi uses the same Indian grouping as lakh and crore in English: the first three digits from the right, then two digits at a time.
| Figures | Hindi | English (Indian) |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | सौ | Hundred |
| 1,000 | हज़ार | Thousand |
| 1,00,000 | लाख | Lakh |
| 1,00,00,000 | करोड़ | Crore |
| 1,00,00,00,000 | अरब | Hundred Crore |
| 1,00,00,00,00,000 | खरब | Ten Thousand Crore |
So ₹45,67,890 is read in three parts: पैंतालीस लाख, सड़सठ हज़ार, आठ सौ नब्बे. Put together, with the cheque-style ending: पैंतालीस लाख सड़सठ हज़ार आठ सौ नब्बे रुपये मात्र.
Rupees, paise and मात्र
- रुपये comes after the number: पाँच सौ रुपये.
- पैसे follow with और: पाँच सौ रुपये और पचास पैसे. A single paisa is एक पैसा.
- मात्र at the end works like "Only" in English and closes the amount so nothing can be added.
- With Number only, there's no रुपये or मात्र, and digits after the decimal point are read one by one with दशमलव: 3.75 is तीन दशमलव सात पाँच.
The tricky numbers people often get wrong
A few pairs sound alike and cause mistakes in writing:
- उनतीस (29), उनतालीस (39), उनचास (49), उनसठ (59), उनहत्तर (69), उन्यासी (79), नवासी (89): the "one less than" numbers before each ten.
- सड़सठ (67) and सतहत्तर (77); अड़सठ (68) and अठहत्तर (78).
- तिरपन (53), तिरसठ (63), तिहत्तर (73), तिरासी (83), तिरानवे (93): all begin differently from तीन.
- इक्यावन (51), इकसठ (61), इकहत्तर (71), इक्यासी (81), इक्यानवे (91).
The converter spells each number one standard way. Some, like छह/छः or पंद्रह/पन्द्रह, have accepted variants; either is fine as long as it is clear.
Where you'll need it
- Cheques and bank slips: write the amount in words to match the ₹ box. The English version and a cheque-filling guide are on the same page.
- Receipts and bills in Hindi for shops, societies and temples. The receipt maker prints the amount in words automatically.
- Legal and government forms that ask for the amount in Hindi (राशि शब्दों में).
- School homework on संख्याएँ and the Indian place-value system.
Press Copy next to the Hindi text and paste it into Word, WhatsApp or an online form; it is ordinary Unicode Hindi, so it works everywhere. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions
1,50,000 को हिंदी में कैसे लिखें?
एक लाख पचास हज़ार रुपये मात्र। Type any amount in the box above and the Hindi words appear at once, with a copy button.
How do I write paise in Hindi words?
Write the rupees, then और, then the paise: ₹2,575.75 is दो हज़ार पाँच सौ पचहत्तर रुपये और पचहत्तर पैसे मात्र. One paisa is written एक पैसा.
What comes after करोड़ in Hindi?
100 करोड़ is एक अरब, 100 अरब is एक खरब, and 100 खरब is एक नील. In English cheques the same amounts are usually written in crore, such as One Hundred Crore.
Can I write a cheque amount in Hindi?
Indian cheques carry labels in both Hindi and English (the RBI's sample cheque shows 'Rupees रुपये'). Whether your bank accepts the amount written in Hindi is for the bank to decide, so ask your branch if you are unsure, or write it in English. Either way, the words must match the figures exactly.
Why do some numbers have two spellings, like छह and छः?
Hindi has accepted spelling variants for a few numbers, such as छह/छः and पंद्रह/पन्द्रह. The converter uses one common, standard spelling for each number.
