Railway Age Calculator (RRB Exams)
Enter your date of birth to see your exact age on the date each RRB notice fixes, such as 1 January 2027 for NTPC and JE, and whether you are within the limit for your category. Limits come from the current CENs.

1Your date of birth
Type it as day, month, year, for example 15-08-2001.
2Exam and age limits
The cutoff date fixed in the notice.
Leave the limits empty to see only your exact age on that date. The upper limit is applied the way current notices print it: "18-27 years" means born not earlier than the cutoff date minus 27 years plus one day.
3Your result
Enter your date of birth
Exact years, months and days, plus the total days.
Pick the exam, post and category on the left. The check uses the born-between dates of the official notice.
| Category | Upper age (years) | Born not earlier than | Born not later than |
|---|
This is a helper, not a decision. Your final eligibility is decided by the recruiting body under its notice, using the date of birth in your Class 10 certificate. Read the notice before you apply.
RRB age limits at a glance
Railway Recruitment Boards publish one Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) for each recruitment, and each CEN fixes its own date for counting age. Most use 1 January, but not all, so the same candidate can be eligible for one CEN and too old for another in the same year. These are the current CENs in the calculator:
| CEN | Posts | Age as on | Age limit | Born between (UR/EWS) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 06/2026 | NTPC Graduate: Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor, Goods Train Manager, JAA cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist | 01-01-2027 | 18-33 | 02-01-1994 and 01-01-2009 |
| 07/2026 | NTPC Under Graduate: Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Junior Clerk cum Typist, Trains Clerk | 01-01-2027 | 18-30 | 02-01-1997 and 01-01-2009 |
| 04/2026 | Junior Engineer, DMS, CMA | 01-01-2027 | 18-33 | 02-01-1994 and 01-01-2009 |
| 01/2026 | Assistant Loco Pilot | 01-07-2026 | 18-30 | 02-07-1996 and 01-07-2008 |
| 09/2025 | Level 1 (Group D) posts | 01-01-2026 | 18-33 | 02-01-1993 and 01-01-2008 |
The RRB tables also print the dates for the reserved categories. For NTPC Graduate, for example, the upper date is 02-01-1991 for OBC (NCL) and 02-01-1989 for SC/ST. The calculator reproduces these dates, and the table under your result lists them for the CEN you pick.
How RRB relaxations work
RRB rules differ from SSC and bank rules in one important way: relaxations do not add up. If you qualify on two grounds, say OBC and widow, you get whichever is larger. The calculator follows this by checking you under your category alone and under the option you pick, and using the better one. The main relaxations in the current CENs are:
- SC and ST: 5 years. OBC (non-creamy layer): 3 years. None for EWS.
- Ex-servicemen with six months of service after attestation (the CENs word it as "at least" or "more than" six months): 3 years (UR/EWS), 6 years (OBC) or 8 years (SC/ST), after deducting the length of service from your age. Enter your service in years, months and days.
- PwBD: 10, 13 or 15 years for UR/EWS, OBC and SC/ST, in NTPC, JE and Group D. The ALP notice has no PwBD relaxation.
- Serving railway staff (Group C and erstwhile Group D, and substitutes) with 3 years of service: up to 40, 43 or 45 years of age.
- Women who are widowed, divorced or judicially separated and not remarried: up to 35, 38 or 40 years of age.
- Apprentices (ALP and Group D): Course Completed Act Apprentices get relaxation equal to their apprentice training (in Group D, up to 3, 6 or 8 years), and in both notices those who became, or started as, Act Apprentices before 25 can apply up to 35, 38 or 40.
Two more rules from the notices are worth knowing. SC, ST and OBC candidates who apply against unreserved vacancies get no age relaxation at all. And candidates working in quasi-administrative railway offices, such as railway canteens or co-operative societies, get relaxation up to their length of service or 5 years, whichever is less; that one depends on your service record, so it is not in the calculator.
Use your Class 10 date of birth
RRB notices ask for the date of birth exactly as recorded in your SSC, SSLC, Matriculation or Class 10 certificate. A different date in the application can lead to disqualification, and later requests to change it are not considered. Check the same date here before you fill the form.

Frequently asked questions
What is the age limit for RRB NTPC 2026?
For the Graduate posts (CEN 06/2026) it is 18 to 33 years as on 01-01-2027: born between 02-01-1994 and 01-01-2009 for UR and EWS. For the Under Graduate posts (CEN 07/2026) it is 18 to 30 years: born between 02-01-1997 and 01-01-2009. OBC and SC/ST candidates get 3 and 5 more years.
On which date is age counted for RRB NTPC and JE?
1 January 2027 for NTPC Graduate (CEN 06/2026), NTPC Under Graduate (CEN 07/2026) and JE (CEN 04/2026). ALP (CEN 01/2026) counts age as on 01-07-2026, and Group D (CEN 09/2025) as on 01-01-2026.
Can I add OBC relaxation and ex-servicemen relaxation together in RRB?
No. RRB notices say that a candidate eligible on more than one ground gets the maximum of those relaxations, not the total. The ex-servicemen rows already differ by category: 3 years for UR/EWS, 6 for OBC and 8 for SC/ST, after deducting your service.
Do SC, ST or OBC candidates get age relaxation for UR vacancies in RRB?
No. The NTPC, JE and ALP notices state that SC, ST and OBC (NCL) candidates applying against unreserved vacancies are not eligible for any age relaxation. PwBD candidates applying against UR vacancies get the PwBD (UR) relaxation only.
What is the age limit for railway employees applying through RRB?
Serving Group C and erstwhile Group D railway staff, and substitutes, with at least 3 years of service can apply up to 40 years of age (UR/EWS), 43 (OBC) or 45 (SC/ST) under the current CENs. Choose that option in the calculator.
