About the NID DAT uploads
The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is the entrance for NID's 4-year B.Des, the 5.5-year Integrated M.Des and the 2.5-year M.Des programmes. One application covers both stages: DAT Prelims, a common exam for all NIDs on Sunday, 20 December 2026, and DAT Mains, a Studio Sensitivity Test and an In-Person Sensitivity Test for those shortlisted. The upload rules differ from most entrance forms in two ways. First, NID wants a coloured passport size photograph taken at a professional studio, and says self-composed portraits will not be accepted, so a selfie or home shot is risky. Second, both the photo and the signature must be at least 50 KB, which is far more than a small signature scan usually weighs. Reserved-category candidates also upload a certificate, and the EWS certificate must be issued on or after 01 April 2026.

NID DAT photo and signature size (2026 notice)
| Upload | Size | File size | Format | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photograph | 350 × 450 px* | 50–200 KB | JPG | Official (NID Admissions Handbook 2027-28): colour scanned copy of a recent passport size photograph, JPG/JPEG, minimum 50 KB and maximum 200 KB. It must be a coloured photograph taken at a professional studio; self-composed portraits are not accepted. NID sets no pixel size; 350 x 450 px is the standard 3.5 x 4.5 passport shape and the tool pads the file to reach 50 KB if needed. |
| Signature | 700 × 300 px* | 50–200 KB | JPG | Official (NID Admissions Handbook 2027-28): scanned signature, JPG/JPEG, minimum 50 KB and maximum 200 KB, digitally photographed or scanned and cropped to the required size. NID sets no pixel size; 700 x 300 px is a default, and because a plain signature is usually far below 50 KB the tool pads the file up to the minimum. |
*The notice fixes the KB range but not an exact pixel size, so the tool uses a suggested default that fits the range.

How to resize your NID DAT photo and signature
- The NID DAT size is already selected above. Switch between Photo, Signature at the top.
- Upload a clear photo from your phone, or a scan or photo of your signature on white paper.
- Drag and zoom so your face (or signature) fills the frame. Use Rotate if it is sideways.
- For the signature, keep Clean background on so the paper turns pure white and the ink stays dark.
- Press Download JPG. The result shows the exact pixel size and KB, within the NID DAT limits.
Tips so your NID DAT upload is not rejected
- Uploading a selfie or self-composed portrait: the handbook asks for a coloured photograph taken at a professional studio.
- A signature file under 50 KB is below the handbook minimum, even if it looks sharp.
- Applying for both B.Des/Integrated M.Des and the 2.5-year M.Des is not possible, because their entrance exams are held at the same time on the same day.
- Use a recent colour photo with a plain light background and even light on your face, with no cap or dark glasses.
- Sign in black ink inside the space, and do not sign in capital letters unless the notice allows it.
- Open the downloaded file once to check it looks sharp before you upload it to the portal.

NID DAT photo and signature FAQs
What is the photo size for NID DAT?
350 × 450 px, 50–200 KB, JPG. The notice fixes only the KB range, so the pixel size is our suggested default. The resizer above is already set to this size.
What is the signature size for NID DAT?
700 × 300 px, 50–200 KB, JPG. The notice fixes only the KB range, so the pixel size is our suggested default. Sign with a black pen on plain white paper and keep "Clean background" on.
Can I change my NID DAT photo or details after paying?
There is a window to edit the application form from 4 PM on 01 December 2026 to 11:59 PM on 03 December 2026. You can modify the details except the programme applied in, your name, date of birth, registered mobile number and registered email ID. Changing your category may mean paying extra fees, with no refund of excess fees.
What is the NID DAT 2027 application fee?
Rs. 3000 for General, Gen-EWS and OBC-NCL, Rs. 2000 for female candidates (except SC, ST and PwD), Rs. 1500 for SC and ST, and Rs. 500 for PwD and third gender candidates. The admit card for DAT Prelims can be downloaded from 4 PM on 10 December 2026.
Can I take the NID DAT photo with my phone?
Yes. Stand facing a plain light wall in daylight, hold the phone at eye level and take a sharp, front-facing photo. Upload it here, drag and zoom so your face fills the frame, and the tool saves it at the exact pixel size and KB range.
How do I check the size of my file before uploading?
The result box under the preview shows the exact pixel size and file size in KB. On a phone you can also open the file details in the Files or Gallery app. On a computer, right-click the file and open Properties (Windows) or Get Info (Mac).
What if my file is smaller than the minimum KB?
Small images can come out below the minimum even at full quality. This tool then adds a harmless comment block inside the JPG so the file reaches the minimum size, while the picture stays exactly the same.
