About the CAT uploads
The IIMs use CAT 2026, a computer-based test on 29 November 2026, to admit students to their postgraduate management programmes and their fellow and doctoral programmes. The photo rule here has a paper side to it: on test day you paste a printed copy of the same passport-size photo you uploaded onto your admit card, so order several prints when you get the picture taken. The photo should be no more than six months old, on a white background. You upload it, along with your signature, in the Documents Upload part of the Personal Details section, where any EWS, NC-OBC, SC/ST or PwBD certificate also goes in as a PDF. The form will not let you continue until the required documents are uploaded, and the guide asks you to preview everything before you move on to payment.

*The notice fixes the KB range but not an exact pixel size, so the tool uses a suggested default that fits the range.

How to resize your CAT photo and signature
- The CAT size is already selected above. Switch between Photo, Signature at the top.
- Upload a clear photo from your phone, or a scan or photo of your signature on white paper.
- Drag and zoom so your face (or signature) fills the frame. Use Rotate if it is sideways.
- For the signature, keep Clean background on so the paper turns pure white and the ink stays dark.
- Press Download JPG. The result shows the exact pixel size and KB, within the CAT limits.
Tips so your CAT upload is not rejected
- Bringing a different photo on test day: the guide asks for printed copies of the same photograph you uploaded, to be affixed on the admit card.
- Using a photo that is more than six months old or does not have a white background goes against the CAT 2026 Registration Guide.
- Paying before checking your uploads: once payment is complete, the guide says no changes to the application are possible, so use Preview first.
- Use a recent colour photo with a plain light background and even light on your face, with no cap or dark glasses.
- Sign in black ink inside the space, and do not sign in capital letters unless the notice allows it.
- Open the downloaded file once to check it looks sharp before you upload it to the portal.

CAT photo and signature FAQs
What is the photo size for CAT?
350 × 450 px, up to 80 KB, JPG. The notice fixes only the KB range, so the pixel size is our suggested default. The resizer above is already set to this size.
What is the signature size for CAT?
472 × 207 px, up to 80 KB, JPG, as given in the official notice. Sign with a black pen on plain white paper and keep "Clean background" on.
Can I change my CAT photo after submitting the application?
Until you pay, yes: you can log out and come back to edit the form as many times as you like, and Preview shows everything you have entered. After the Payment section is complete and the confirmation mail arrives, the Registration Guide says changes to any information in the application are not possible; you can only print or save it.
How many printed photos should I keep for CAT?
The guide does not give a number. It says the photo you upload will need to be affixed on the admit card on the day of the test, 29 November 2026, and asks you to make sure you have sufficient copies of this photo. Admit cards can be downloaded from 4 November 2026 until the test day.
Which other documents are uploaded along with the photo and signature?
In the same Documents Upload step you add, if they apply to you, a valid EWS, NC-OBC or SC/ST certificate and a valid PwBD certificate, each scanned as a PDF. SC, ST and PwBD candidates must upload their certificate at the time of registration, and NC-OBC certificates for CAT 2026 must be issued on or after 1 April 2026.
Can I take the CAT photo with my phone?
Yes. Stand facing a plain light wall in daylight, hold the phone at eye level and take a sharp, front-facing photo. Upload it here, drag and zoom so your face fills the frame, and the tool saves it at the exact pixel size and KB range.
How do I check the size of my file before uploading?
The result box under the preview shows the exact pixel size and file size in KB. On a phone you can also open the file details in the Files or Gallery app. On a computer, right-click the file and open Properties (Windows) or Get Info (Mac).
