No login and no watermark. Everything stays in your browser. A receipt is the receiver's own acknowledgement: only the person or organisation that actually received the money should sign and issue it.

Why cash needs a receipt more than any other payment

A UPI transfer or a cheque leaves a trail in two bank accounts. Cash leaves nothing, unless someone writes it down. That's why a cash receipt matters: for the person who paid, it is the only proof that the money changed hands; for you, it is the record that keeps your cash book honest. Tuition teachers collecting monthly fees, landlords taking a deposit, mechanics, caterers, small shops, society treasurers and event organisers all use them.

The receipt maker above is already set to Cash: the wording reads "Received in cash from …", the payment mode is fixed to cash and the reference fields are hidden. Fill in your name, the payer's name, the amount and what it was for, and the amount in words is written for you.

A good cash receipt, line by line

  1. Heading and number. "CASH RECEIPT" and a number in sequence, such as CR-0045. You can change the heading if you prefer "Money Receipt".
  2. Your details. Name or business name, address and phone, so the payer knows who issued it.
  3. The sentence. "Received in cash from Sunil Mehta the sum of ₹3,500.00 (Rupees Three Thousand Five Hundred Only) towards tuition fees for October 2026."
  4. Amount box. The figure again, in large type.
  5. Signature. Yours, or an authorised person's, above "Authorised signatory". Upload a signature image or sign the printout.

Filled receipt or a receipt book?

If you…Use
receive cash now and then, and have a phone or computer handyA filled receipt: send the PNG on WhatsApp or print one
collect cash often, at a counter or door to doorA blank numbered receipt book with counterfoils, filled by hand
need a copy for your own file"Original + duplicate" (same number, two copies), or the counterfoil

For a receipt book, choose Blank numbered receipt book, set the first number and the count (up to 300), pick 2 or 3 per page and switch on the counterfoil. Each receipt has lines for the payer, the amount in words, the purpose and the date, and the counterfoil keeps the same number for your records.

Small habits that prevent disputes

  • Count the cash in front of the payer before you sign.
  • Write the amount in words without gaps and end with "Only", so nothing can be added.
  • Never reuse a number. If you spoil a receipt, mark it cancelled and keep it.
  • Note what the money was for (fee month, invoice number, deposit) so the receipt makes sense months later.
  • Some people fix a revenue stamp on cash receipts above a certain amount under the stamp law that applies to them. The tool can add an empty box for one; check the rule for your case.
  • Donations in cash above ₹2,000 don't qualify for the income-tax deduction for donations. If you run a charity, see the donation receipt format.

The receipt is made in your browser. There is no login and no watermark, and the details are not uploaded anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

What is the format of a cash receipt?

A heading (Cash Receipt), the receiver's name and address, a receipt number and date, the line 'Received in cash from … the sum of ₹… (amount in words) towards …', the amount in a box, and the receiver's signature. The tool lays all of this out for you.

Who signs a cash receipt?

The person who received the cash, or someone authorised to sign for the business or organisation. The payer keeps the receipt as proof that they paid.

Can I print a cash receipt book?

Yes. Choose 'Blank numbered receipt book', set the first number and how many you need, and turn on the counterfoil. Print 2 or 3 receipts per A4 sheet, cut along the lines, and staple them into a book.

Should a cash receipt be made for small amounts?

It's good practice for any amount you need to account for later, such as fees, rent, deposits or repairs. It protects both sides if there is ever a question about whether the money was paid.
